Thread: Your Top 10 PSOne RPGs

  1. Yeah, it's friggin' insane.

  2. It's cute when Josh pretends to know anything about videogames.

  3. I was playing an EXCELLENT RPG the other day. It was set in space, and was actually pretty scary! Probably the best plot I've ever seen in a videogame, too.

Then I realized I was just navigating menus on the "Alien" dvd.

  4. I'm kind of surprised at the lack of Front Mission 3 love.

I always wanted to play Breath of Fire IV but never picked it up.

  5. How do you level up and distribute your reward points in Alien DVD? I still can't get that Alien egg out of the Alien vagina to complete the Sany V quest.

  6. You've got to hit "Menu>Root Menu" then "Subtitles>English 1".

  7. Breath of Fire IV is really average. Probably one of the slowest RPGs ever made. I'd say III is the only BoF worth playing.

[Edit]: Haven't tried Dragon Quarter yet.

  8. Is Alundra considered an RPG? I've wanted to play that for years.

Suikoden - The epitome of magicalness. Probably doesn't stand up all that well, but I don't care. It's likely that this won't be played by me ever again - don't want to fuck with the great times it gave me. Still <3 listening to the music, however.

FFTactics - Hated this game at first. I found it much too difficult, but that's mostly because I was used to cakewalks like Shining Force. After a few months of it rotting on the shelf, my little 9th grade self picked it up and again, determined to fuck it up the ass. And that I did. I strategerized nicely, messed around with all the jobs, and built up mah mad skillz4u2c. Had fun. And getting Cloud and Aeris ps. she dies in FF7 OMG was neat. OMG THE MUSIC SO GOOD.

FF7 - Loved every single minute of this. Don't be hatin'. I'd get like only 2 hours of sleep thanks to this gem. Aerisdies.com.

Vandal Hearts - I played this only recently, actually, and it's still fun. Generic plot, but some fun dialogue in comparison to some other RPGs of its time. <3 Konami.

Suikoden 2 - I thought the first was better, but this is still nice. But jeez, it took seemingly a few hours to even get started. Dialogue box after dialogue box after dialogue box after...JUST LET ME FUCKING BATTLE AND DO SHIT. Happened way too often in this game. Music sucked, mostly.

Saga Frontier 2 - Not sure why this game is hated so much. The music and graphics are incredible, and I found the story to be oh2spicy high quality - almost like a really well written children's book.

Wild Arms - Maybe it's the intro, but this game is sexy. I remember some of the puzzles annoying me, mostly because battles were too frequent while trying to compute them. Not only that, but the music during battles was some of the most annoying shit I've ever heard. I mean, ugh:

Arc the Lad - I honestly don't remember much about this series, but I distinctly remember enjoying 1 and 2. 3? I either didn't play it or found it boring. Very Shining Force-like, which is never a bad thing.

    Chrono Cross
    - Worth it for the incredible music and pretty backgrounds alone.

    -----------------------------------

I can't think of another one. I played Hoshigami, FF8, Saga Frontier, Beyond the Beyond, and maybe a few others for a bit, but they made me want to die.

I took all your French Toast.

  10. While we are discussing SRPGs, I like my stats to be simpler, kinda like Shining Force, so in my book Vanguard Bandits and Front Mission 3>the tedium that is Final Fantasy Tactics.
I tried many times, but couldn't get into Kartia or Brigidine.
The Vandal Hearts games were great fun as well. I played through the first two Arc the Lad games, but never got into the third.
My top ten rpgs would consist of the following:

Suikoden 1/2- I like them both equally, and recently started playing through the entire series. I 100% Suikoden, and have started Suiko 2.

Grandia-Is the Saturn version better? Arguably. I've played through both, and though the PSX version had some annoying voices; SO DID THE SATURN VERSION!

Lunar Series- When these came out, the nostalgic ass in me swore the Sega CD versions were better. I played through both versions a few years ago and saw the truth.

Dragon Warrior VII- The graphics sucked. Horribly. That did not stop me from wasting weeks of my life on the game.

Wild Arms 1/2- While most would consider these second tier at best, I had more fun with them than I did with any of the Final Fantasy games on PSX; which you'll notice are absent from my list. I hated FF7 before it was cool to hate FF7. In fact the whole reason my Sega Fanboy Ass bought a PSX was for FF7, so I went in with good intentions.

Guess that's only eight. Oh well.

How about a list of the top ten ok rpgs that no one plays
    Granstream Saga
    Azure Dreams
    Legend of Legaia
    Koudelka
    Shadow Madness
    Tales of Destiny 1/2
    Thousand Arms
    Torneko
    Chocobo's Dungeon 2
