I don't understand why people are so obsessed with games that are ONLY POSSIBLE ON ZBOZ/PS3. Nearly every game can be deconstructed to run on whichever system you're interested in.

    Case in point:

Sure, but I only see the hype and not the latter.

The basic features of nearly every game could be pulled off last generation had they thought of them at the time. But they didn't, and the features are new now and add a whole lot to the game as a whole. I in no way think it's "the best game evar", but you must be blind if you don't think R* didn't add a ton as far as gameplay features and mechanics go.

If you want to see a game with a new coat of paint, look at Rainbow Six Vegas vs Rainbow Six Vegas 2. GTA4 just doesn't fit the bill of "a new coat of paint only".

  5. See, not true Brand. For instance when metal gear solid came out, it was revolutionary. It was unable to to accurately portrayed on the last gen systems.

  6. Actually, many of the gameplay mechanics from MGS were pulled off in the Game Boy version of Metal Gear. Which was a 10+ year old piece of hardware. They just weren't thought of until MGS was released.

  7. Mario 64 could not have been done on the super nintendo.
    Check out Mr. Businessman
He bought some wild, wild life
On the way to the stock exchange
He got some wild, wild life

  8. Again, many of the gameplay mechanics from Mario 64 were ripped directly from previous mario games. They were just visually brought into a different dimension. Obviously many things aren't possible, like doing 3d on a 2d system, but that isn't a core gameplay mechanic, which is what this entire "argument" is about. Like ep said, if you break down a game to it's bare essentials, they are all possible on previous systems. Which is why saying "WELL THIS COULD BE DONE IN THE LAST GENERATION" is a ridiculous argument.

But this entire conversation is getting away from the main point I was trying to make. Just because things were possible on a previous generation of systems doesn't mean they are any less of a significant addition to GTA4 which is a current generation game.

  9. Didn't the devs say earlier that the "98% of buildings are empty facades" thing would be lessened and there would be a lot more indoor environments? Whatever happened to that? It seems like there's even less than usual.

I'm having a good time with the game and all, especially now that I'm further in and there's tons of missions to take at any given time, but it's not really much of a leap at all.

Especially the controls, no game with combat like this deserves a 10, let alone one that's had the benefit of several prior installments to address such an obvious and fundamental problem.

I agree, the combat is the worst part about this game. Shootouts are really retarded (especially with the sticky cover system, it feels like Gears on tar). But when I am just driving around soaking up the atmosphere, this game just feel so good.
