Thread: Doom

  1. Really?! I need another example! I'm just not grasping this idea!

That's what they said happened with Alien: Colonial Marines too. Might be more common than we realize, when there's something higher profile going on at the same time.

It seems like when projects get rebooted mid-stream it rarely gets them back on the right track. Resident Evil 2 and 4 might be notable exceptions to that rule, but more often the project just continues to struggle, but at a hugely overrun budget.

Yeah, except Aliens was being done by an outside developer, whereas Doom 4 was in-house. You'd think iD would know what was actualy going on under their own roof.

Sure thing! Thread is going well, Compass shows up, thread instantly turns to shit.

    Hope that helped.

  4. It didn't! That's not the same thing at all. I'm as confused as ever!

    lol.

  5. I guess where I was going was is it wise to keep spending ridiculous amounts of money to start from scratch? I guess there could be plenty of great games that have had this happen and turn out fine (there are and a couple have been mentioned), but then there are those we hear about constantly getting restarted or moving from developer to developer and probably ended up way worse then if they just stuck to the original plan or at least modified it to make it work. It's one thing to catch it early and reboot, but to go years and scrap everything is just silly.

  6. There was only a one-year gap between Doom and Doom II. All I ever wanted from a new game in the series is Doom II 2. How does that take over 20 years?

Not to mention that it sucked when we finally got it.

  8. Not really. I don't know what Doom 3 was, but it wasn't Doom II 2. It was the idea of what someone thought would sell, dressed up with a few references to a classic FPS. I'd describe Doom 3 as competent, maybe even adequate, but it doesn't really belong in the series.

  9. Doom 3's biggest sin was trying to reinvent something too badass to need reinvention. It seems like 4 fell into a similar trap.

  10. Maybe they need to hand it off to the Rise of the Triad guys? I don't know, but whatever it is they think they're doing, they're obviously doing it wrong.
