I hope gas gets to $9 a gallon if it will clear up some of the roads and conjestion. If it won't then fuck that. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for gas if it kept some people off the roads and made it a little more enjoyable to drive. I know that's kind of an ignorant/asshole/arrogant way to think though, I suppose. Still it'd be pretty sweet to fly down empty streets in the middle of the day.
Frankly I think the government ought to subsidize gas at about 75% for the elderly, teenagers, women and the Chinese.

The problem with a skyrocketing oil price is that a lot of people have to travel quite far for their low paying jobs; low-income housing has moved farther and farther away from their places of employment. If the price continues to elevate at the current rate, it may look increasingly attractive for a lot of people to live off of welfare, and where does that money come from?
Every DUI should receive a $50 gas card as well.
