Thread: The Lost Games

  1. I lost the SNES Final Fantasy 3 and Silent Hill 2 for PS2.

Actually, someone borrowed FF3 years ago and I haven't seen her since. Owned?

And I just repurchased Silent Hill 2 last week, after I noticed it was missing.

  2. I've lost a few to friends just never giving them back. Most recently a copy of Castlevania 64 (STFU I <3 that game) and Aria of Sorrow.

But considering I have a HUGE pile of games I haven't even opened it doesn't piss me off too much. Happens, I guess.

"All creatures will DIE, and all things will be BROKEN: That is the law of the SAMURAI."

  3. My mom threw away all of my original gameboy, nes, snes boxes and manuals by accident.

That still ills me a bit. :/

  4. My girlfriend borrowed my PS2 and a copy of Space Channel 5 Collection for a couple of days. A few weeks later, she wanted to play it at my apartment, but the SC5p1 disc wasn't there. I mentioned that I hadn't played it since I loaned it to her, and she felt so bad that she went out and bought another copy the next day.

About a month before I moved out, my roommate found it in the CvS2 case that he had chucked it in. I still feel pretty guilty about that one.

The only other game I lost was Harlem Globetrotters for NES in 4th grade. I let my friend borrow it in exchange for Legend of Kage, and she moved before we traded back. I'm not sure who got the sweeter end of that deal.

I've lost countless games over the years, but most were cheap and easily replaceable. There were a few things that hurt though.

When I was about 9 or 10 I got sick of the NES for a while and stopped playing. After a few months I resumed, but most of my games were missing. I did eventually replace them all, but much later. I'm pretty sure some of my older sister's asshole friends "borrowed" them.

A few years later (I was 12) I got an SNES when it was released for Christmas, best present ever. We were moving the next April, and I had my stuff boxed up for the move. An exterminator came to spray and lo and behold my SNES deck was gone. Oddly, he left the controllers, cords, and SMW game. But the fucker came back 3 days later and took those too. Called the cops, told them who the fucker was and they didn't do anything since it was just a kid's toy.

More recently, my NGPC stopped working, and I bought a brand new in box unit back when they were super cheap. I popped in SNK vs Capcom to test it, and put it back in the box. I moved a few weeks later, and I have never found that thing. That still pisses me off.

I haven't lost many. I bought some used $2 SMS games a decade ago, dropped the pile accidentally on the bus ride, and realized when I got home Ys was missing.

I also lent out Zelda 3 to a friend who lost it.

  7. I don't think I have ever lost a game. I suppose a game on 3.5" that I got in the mail or something...also I couldn't tell you where the NES stuff is, nor do I care that much as none of it was mint anyway so it's all pretty much worthless. SMS stuff is in a chest in my room ;p

  8. True story: some kid I lived near lost my Mortal Kombat for GB.

It really isn't about caring more about my games than my friends, its the fact that my friends don't take as good care of their shit as I do. I lost a ton of games during the NES days due to lending them to friends who seemed to mysteriously lose them, or not remember me ever lending them the game or lending them to some one else who lent it to some one else who lent to some one else etc etc.

Then the PS era came and games ended up on discs, I'd go to their house and their games would be all over the floor, scratched to hell with broken cases. Sorry but if you can't take care of your own shit why would I think you could take care of mine.

Every time I change my policy on lending shit out, it bites me in the ass. Conversely I also don't like borrowing shit from people.

  10. I lost almost my entire collection when I moved into my new house. We had just started trucking boxes back and forth from the apartment, and the house got broken into one night (we're pretty sure it was the construction crew working on the house next door). They nabbed my 2 boxes of PS2/Xbox1 games (over 300 total games thanks to Circuit City's $5 sales), a box that had both systems in it, my entire DVD library, and a shit-ton of other stuff I can't even remember. All boxed up and ready for transport.

Oddly enough, they left my 8-bit and 16-bit collections alone and must have either not noticed my Dreamcast hooked up to the TV, or thought it was a goofy looking answering machine.
