Thread: Lets talk about...... Fantasy Zone!

  1. Lets talk about...... Fantasy Zone!

I seriously want a new Fantasy Zone game, a 2.5D shooter would kick much ass IMHO.

Anyone have an official count of games that come out? I know there's 3 on SMS, one on NES, 1 on genesis, 1 on saturn, 1 on GG and I think Opa Opa makes a guest appearence in Arnold Palmers Golf on Genesis.

  3. A version of the game was released for PDAs. Definitely an all-time classic, I'm kinda suprised Sega's let it languish so long.

  4. I have the TG-16 version, which is a really good port from what I can tell. Best Sega conversion on the system.

I love Fantasy Zone including Fantasy Zone: The Maze.

These are all the ones I know of-

    Fantasy Zone - Arcade, SMS, NES(Tengen), Famicom(Sunsoft), TurboGrafx(NEC), Saturn

    Fantasy Zone 2 - Arcade, SMS, Famicom(Sunsoft)

Fantasy Zone: The Maze - SMS

    Fantasy Zone - Game Gear

Space Fantasy Zone unreleased beta - PCE SCD(NEC)

Super Fantasy Zone - Mega Drive(Sunsoft)

Fantasy Zone - Cell phone, PDA

I guess I'll throw some opinions on the games...

I imagine the Saturn version of Fantasy Zone 1 is the closest to the arcade but I haven't played it.

Like Rob said, Fantasy Zone was probably the best Sega conversion on the system. Almost every Sega game got butchered on Turbo except FZ. I still prefer the SMS version but the Turbo one does have better graphics and some parallax.

Fantasy Zone 2 is also great on SMS. Avoid all NES/Famicom versions of FZ games unless you're some hardcore collector.

Fantasy Zone: The Maze is a great, original maze-chase game, a genre near-extinct in the late '80's. It's really fun two-player except the bonus rounds favor Player 1.

Super Fantasy Zone I only played briefly but it's looks really good and possibly is the best of the series. A worthy Genesis import.

  7. More random trivia: Opa Opa is in PSO. And there's the song in Samba.

Don't know if it's the full game but with this trick you can play it:

    http://www.free-game.com/Megadrive/A...lmers_Golf.htm

"To access a secret game of fantasy zone, start a new game and take 100 strokes on any hole without sinking the ball. The words game over will appear, press UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN,LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT and button A. Now you are in fantasy zone."

Anybody ever do this? Age old trick I always wanted to try, too bad I hate golf let alone golf video games.

I couldn't get that trick to work when I rented Arnold Palmer.

  10. Bummer.
