Thread: Earthworm Jim movie and series on the way.

  1. Earthworm Jim movie and series on the way.

    TenNapel is on board.

"EWJ creator, Doug TenNapel will serve as creative consultant for EWJ4 and he’ll be writing for the new animated series and feature film.
Check out what TenNapel had to say to fans on his forum:
The old game was great, but there was no room to tell a real story. It barely says anything about Jim…it’s the perfect game but not a story at all. The cartoon was pretty stale with really low production values even for back then. The toy line was kind of clunky-chunky.
I’m excited to introduce him to a new generation of people. I’ve done a few new sketches and he’s really fun, funny and just more solid as a character. I have a ten page feature script treatment that I just finished to get a look at the character…see what a feature might look like.
I’m not going to say much more. I don’t want EWJ to be all about talking up a character…I’m putting the goods down on paper. We’ll give you updates over on the Interplay site and I’ll probably start a blog to let all of the Jim fans in on the progress of the character, game, movie, etc.
What some of you might not understand is that I haven’t ever had legal control of my own character for EWJ’s whole existence. I promise to deliver my very best ideas, story-telling, game ideas and I’ll demand the very best quality from all parties on board. That doesn’t mean it will come out a hit…I can’t control that. I can only say that I really want to make him shine so you won’t get some half-baked, heartless piece of crap made to exploit you for more money.
We’re going for it. Your support is appreciated. Go tell all of your friends and spread the word across the internet that Jim. Is. Back."

  2. See, if you read Sega-16, you would have found out about this two weeks ago.

  3. Doug has the talent to make a movie and series good. Unfortunately, he only has half the talent needed to make a game good. For all the games he worked on, he doesn't have one clue about gameplay.

  4. it's been an hour and change and everybodys favourite parachute dupe account hasn't posted yet, odd

  5. I loved the Old EWJ cartoon series from 95, i got it downloaded =)

  6. Wasn't Dave Perry the driving force behind the gameplay of EWJ?

Yes. Which is why it's the last Doug Tennappel game that had remotely interesting gameplay. Even Neverhood is a pretty average game design, made awesome by the great world, style, and music.

    Remember Boombots? Yeah.

Perfect game and no story at all = win

...So this time let's force a story possibly at the expense of the game! Yeah!

    I love EWJ 1 and 2.
I think a story would have fundamentally hurt the game. I mean, the humor played up the fact that there was no story. Save Princess What's Her Name. And then a UFO abducts a cow.

Any attempt at making that cohesive ruins the gag.

  10. Down with story, IMO. The first two games had the ideal amount of plot I want to see in any game.

    Which amounts to "lol cow".
