Pencil and paper, dawg. Pencil and paper.
and playsets! HUGE bases.
I have no idea what I'm talking about, but maybe look into Solidworks for mechanical toys? Not good for figures, but I figure it would helpful in designing a transformer.
Oh, and maybe stuff on making your own garage kits?
You know what it is? The whole philosophy has shifted from designing awesome toys and then making a cartoon to help sell them, to making toys based on already-successful properties, which gives the designers much less creative freedom. Corporate aversion to risk and all that.
pretty much
HOWEVER
I do remember the old macross jets being designed way before the toy and toy of that thing kicked butt.
Sketched up just now for fun (and ideas!). Where's yours?
IMPORTANT DECISIONS:
-Should he have a cape? Jet pack? LASER CANNON? What kind of accessories should he have?
-Accessory pegs? How many? Lots, I think.
-His chest should have some kind of clear bit. Very sure about this. Maybe liquid-filled.
-Limited articulation in mind, but at what points?
-What kind of gels would work best for the fire effect? I'd like to do little orange and yellow resin flames!
Actually planning on making this now.

That's great Yellerdog, just one question.
Where the hell is the Hologram?!?
You guys are lucky. I didn't really have toys growing up. I had part of a Slinky. But I straightened it.
