Thread: Burn After Reading

  1. I saw it. Funny as hell, not the best, not the worst, worth seeing once, might be better a second time.
    Donk

  2. Good movie, not great. Brad Pitt stole the show and John Malkovich never disappoints. Every scene with J.K. Simmons (which there were only a few) was hilarious. You'll know why when you see it.

FYI, the movie felt extremely short. Why? Because it was. It's an hour and a half.

  3. as this is not a standard comedy the build up and punchlines were when you least expected it. once it kicked in though, it sucks you into its vortex, and you see the lives of the subjects spiral into oblivion.

First 20 mins or so seemed to have some stale dialogue, and off par acting, but knowing the coens, hopefully this was intentional lead in and character development instead of bad writing.

brad pitt was great with his "shit", clooney's character was like wtf until you saw the pattern (plus lol at his home depot machine), malkovich ruled, frances was so-so , and her plus tilda seemed to be the weak points, they just couldnt hang with these top noth actors

even though he had maybe 5 minutes screen time, absolutely best part of the movie was his interaction between David Rasche of SledgeHammer fame.

J.K. seriously had me in tears at the end, his lines were so perfectly delivered, and his expressions were spot on. probably one of the best performances ive ever seen, at least based on that final scene.

    overall a big

That's how long 99% of movies ought to be.

I agree, it's so refreshing to see a movie of that length.

  7. ADD has ruined cinema.

Anyway, this movie rocked hard. I didn't really know what to think of it till a day later. It's just a fun fun movie. (extra fun intended)

No, actually my statement was identifying the opposite trend. Movie run times are longer than ever, you've got action flicks and comedies and shit going well past 2 hours, genres that, pre-2000, would rarely if ever go that long. I've got no problem with long lengths when they're appropriate, but those should be the exception, not the rule.

Yeah, I feel the same same exact way now. Brad Pitt's character was fucking awesome now that I think about it. I'm never going to forget his silly antics throughout the movie. He even managed to make his head getting blown off look funny with his smile right before Clooney pulls the trigger.

  10. This movie added up to a big pile of nothing.

Great cast, some good performances throughout (George Clooney and Frances McDormand), but the plot was seriously lacking, and the characters mostly unsatisfying. Not knowing how to end the movie, the Coens simply put Rasche and Simmons together in a room giving a wrap-up, which is no better than having some off-screen narrator giving a hackneyed "happily ever after."

I think my sister put it best when she said, "this is one of those movies that really had no reason to be made."

I did enjoy the fake movie-within-a-movie, though. Best Dermot Mulroney cameo evar.
