    This is apparently the answer.

Also I wasn't asking for sympathy for not being able to sleep, just asking if anyone knew a good way to get there since I can't seem to. While a schedule is good and fine, if I miss that mark and attempt to stay up all night when I have to work for 12 hours the next day, I don't believe being sleep deprived would help. Just saying.

  3. I fell asleep the other day after an hour long session of hand love, and yet at night when I went for the encore it was no dice (and by that I mean I couldn't sleep).

Doc and I share similar traits it seems, besides being hairy.

Yeah but it equalizes out. For example, you tell yourself "I have to get up at 6 in the morning". at 6, no matter how little sleep you got, you force yourself up. You'll go to work very tired and have a shitty day, which will make you more tired, so you're more likely to get to sleep the next night, maybe earlier than usual. if you get more sleep than needed, then the next day you won't be so tired, and will naturally stay up later. Eventually you find your equilibrium and sleep for as many hours as you need (which despite popular belief is not 8 hours for everyone, at 8 hours i'm well into my next rhythm) and wake up at the time you want.

  5. this does indeed make sense, as much as staying up that late and going to work would blow a cock full of asparagus chunks. I've been going back and forth this week between that one sleep aid I bought (the MidNite bullshit) and having a couple drinks, and for the most part it's been working fine.

As for tonight, I did not drink, did not take any sleep aids, and have not slept a wink since 12pm yesterday morning/afternoon. I worked today and am pretty beat, but I have the feeling that since it's nearly 9am already I'll be up until tonight when I normally go to sleep.

Get up at the same time each day. Thats all. Don't be a bitch about it.

  7. I think you're an alcoholic. When you don't drink your body gets upset and doesn't let you sleep. Seriously.
    Boo, Hiss.

  8. Stuffing fake shit into your body isn't the route to get back to healthy sleep. I endorse Rozerem because the entire point of the medication is to NOT have you be chemically or psychologically dependent. If that doesn't work for you, you need to stop shoving shit into your system and just be the boss of your own body. If it's time to sleep, let it know. Stop feeding it shit and getting your brain hooked on the need to try stuff in order to rest.

As you guys know I work shifts that vary. Sometimes I start at 4 am, sometimes I start at 2pm, and sometimes I start at any hour in between. I naturally like being awake at night, and I like to sleep during the day. It's weird but that's how it is. When I close, (shifts ending at midnight) I'm up til about dawn or so. When I open (shift starting at 4) I generally get a little less sleep but fall asleep after I get home, quickly, for at least a few hours of napping before falling asleep around 8pm-midnight.

I sleep when I'm tired and I get up when I need to, and if I didn't get enough sleep I drink some coffee and finish my workday and then go to bed when I'm tired. I can function well on as little as 2-3 hours of sleep, I've discovered, and I can function capably on under an hour of sleep. I've gotten very good at waking up whenever I need to. No matter when I go to bed or when I get up I am up about 5 minutes before my alarm. It's bizarre, but awesome.

I'd try a sleep aid on my weekend just to see what it's like, but generally feeling drowsy when I don't want to sleep just pisses me off based on other medications I've taken for disease.
My trick to fall asleep is to watch rips of sporting events on my computer, especially teams or sports I don't care much about. I was watching the racquetball championships the other night on espn3. That shit puts me right to bed. As long as I get into bed I have no trouble falling asleep...but I don't always get into bed when I should because I am awake.

Anyway if you guys are lying in bed and can't fall asleep I suggest to all of you to put some kind of sport on and close your eyes and listen to the absolute mind-numbing dialogue that is sports commentary. It provides rudimentary imagery to occupy your mind and a whole host of useless boring information and conjecture that puts you to sleep.

These days I like to listen to podcasts when I go to sleep. Stuff You Missed in History Class is perfect for this.
