Thread: "The Cult of the Amateur"

  1. LOL @ weeman. I will say that weeman has been in a band before... back in freshman year of high school. It contained a single guiatrist, who had just started playing, and weeman as the singer. Later, I took over as singer, horribly, and weeman started playing bass, horribly. I can upload some of our mp3's if anyone is willing to listen to the terrible noise we were churning out. I can't stand talking to weeman about music, mainly because he started listening to all this random, and mostly shitty, metal music, but also because he is such a pretentious dick about it. Of course he is a pretentious dick about everything he has an opinion on, but that's just weeman, and he isn't that bad when you get to know him.

Also, for your viewing pleasure, weemans first band. I'm not in it at the time, just filming.

  2. Not having a full line-up means not a band.
    Boo, Hiss.

  3. Also: That was painful to watch.
    Boo, Hiss.

  4. His retarded rants are much more in context now.

That can't be serious, can it? It was hilarious, if not painful to watch, though.

Nothing in this thread has anything to do with the Loudness war.

I can't speak for other forms of music, but the quality of metal music has been falling to ridiculous lows since 1996, which is about the same time that the Internet starting becoming a part of mainstream culture.

I can list dozens of "Mozarts" from 1984-1996; I can't even name a handful from 1996-2008.

Quality control plays a large role in that disparity. Bands back then had to work harder to get heard/get signed, which means that the quality of music from those bands who did get heard/signed was greater.
that is silly horse shit. having some inflated system of gold at the end of the rainbow, does not lead to mozarts or led zepplins or other such awesome stuff.

We do not get Mozarts because our entertainment has evolved. Today's mozarts are in Korea playing the hell out of Starcraft.

Music used to be "the" fun thing to do in the evening when you couldn't go outside. Now we have easier and more accessible options for fun.
