Thread: Tenchu 4

  1. While there were more open field actiony parts in Tenchu 2, there was still a good amount of stealth to be had. The little towns were still good for rooftop shenanigans, though you did more hand-to-hand fighting than actual stealth up there it seems. The caves were good. And it's not as though they took away your grappling hook (just gave you fewer opportunities to use it). There was a level editor feature that allowed you to make your own levels which was/is really awesome. The music was not as good and the sense of feudal Japan not nearly as good. Still, it wasn't a bad game. Worthy of a purchase imo.

3 was a lot of fun. Multiplayer rocked.

If you haven't play one since the first, then how is my statement bullshit? I'm saying the game hasn't had a significant upgrade in terms of graphics or game play since that first entry. Now come the fuck on, it's been a decade, am I really so out of line for being a little irate at that? Especially since I'm a fan, who believed the hype year after year that the next Tenchu would be the one that pumped new life in the series?

It's a long-running series from a major game company, not some $20 budget bin darling like fucking EDF or some shit. They tried to bump the graphics in the last one, but the gameplay was so rigid and outdated that it just played like shit. I don't just want a graphics overhaul (even though I want that too and I don't see what the big deal of wanting games on a newer console to be at least somewhat better looking than predecessors) I want a design overhaul. At this point, it's time to either remake Tenchu from the ground up or smother the series with a pillow.

  3. I've never played Tenchu 2 so I've no idea if it sucked or not, but I know that Shinobido was a lot of fun for the little I got to play of it. This makes me optimistic for the Wii version.

I haven't played a Tenchu since the first because I'm more of a Serious Sam, Earth Defense Force gamer. I do a stealth game every year or two, if that, and one year I almost played Red Ninja: End of Honor. That was too close for comfort.

  5. Lookin' pretty solid.

  6. If this wasn't on the wii I would be excited.

  7. I've been playing Tenchu Z (hush) so now I'm even more interested. And it looks better than Z - but only because that game looks awful.

Playing a horrible game makes you more excited for an iffy sequel?
