Thread: Gaming Preference

  1. home

I'm not gay...oh and I bought a DS and no, it isn't that good...but I will be playing this weekend as I am going home and not taking 360

  2. That's how it begins. At first handheld gaming is a nice way to fill in the time when you don't have a console handy. Then you find a strategy game that takes a bit longer than a few spare hours out of the week, or a final boss that needs the concentration you can't get away from home. Or maybe the DS ends up sitting by the bed for a bit of pre-sleep gaming, which somehow becomes a nightly habit. Soon enough, whether it's in several weeks or several months, handheld gaming becomes part of the routine, and as valid as any console or arcade machine.

    You've been warned!

  3. In the GBA days, I played handhelds most of the time. With the DS, I have five games.

Picross--OK, I wil be playing this a lot this weekend. My biggest beef is that the DS resolution is too small for big puzzles. Honestly, even with the touching, I think the PSP would be better for this game solely because of this.

SIE--good game...I still haven't read up on the scoring system...really should be a XBLA game though.

Nanostray--not as good as SIE, but decent...not really a great portable game though...and my hands hurt playing it

Contra 4--the two screens kills it for me. Better on XBLA.

Geometry Wars--this game sucks, pretty much.

The problem is that I don't have a good RPG for it. Don't know what to buy. I'd like to play an older one first partially because I have a good string of 20 dollar purchases.

  5. If I could play all of my PSP and DS games on a console instead, I probably would. And while I do like a lot of "old" style genres, there's MAME, and there isn't a single piece of software better than MAME.

    So yeah, home.

  6. I mostly play at home. I only game on the go when traveling across the country.

  7. SIE--good game...I still haven't read up on the scoring system...really should be a XBLA game though
    What is this, a shooter?
Why do people continue to act like this is a new thing? Those "serieses" have been appearing on handhelds since 1991
Maybe because that wasn't where we were seeing the real next instalments to series?

  10. I'm another artsy-fartsy type who plays more handhelds. It's a combination of finding pick-up-and-play games (Contra, Layton, Tetris, Mario Kart), being on the go, and just having more opportunities to play. If I come home and a roommate is hogging the 360, I just chill and play DS. Or if I'm working on a freelance project and waiting for assets to download (guh) or files to save (bah!), having a portable to kill 5 minutes is so nice!

Granted I've been playing a lot of console games since getting a 9-5 job for the same reason as previously stated. Sometimes it's nice to decompress after work playing a console game.
