Anything, avoiding spoilers, that I should do to make this game better of the start? Or is this like every other game they've made were your discussions only sort of matter?

Go to the mage tower first if your character isn't a healer. That's the only really big thing that I wish I had done

I don't know much about this game, but I know enough about me to know I won't be a healer.

It's a double-edged sword. You get the most useful party member ever but oh god is she dull.
