Thread: Lars and The Real Girl - TNL Movie Club Season 2

  1. Lars and The Real Girl - TNL Movie Club Season 2

I am an absolute dork for qwirky and weird "indie" flicks, i was able to catch the first half hour of this movie last semester in Story Structure (my teacher had screener copies).

In this comedy, Lars Lindstrom is an awkwardly shy young man in a small northern town who finally brings home the girl of his dreams to his brother and sister-in-law's home. The only problem is that she's not real - she's a sex doll Lars ordered off the Internet. But sex is not what Lars has in mind, but rather a deep, meaningful relationship. His sister-in-law is worried for him, his brother thinks he's nuts, but eventually the entire town goes along with his delusion in support of this sweet natured boy that they've always loved.
My original selection was going to be "Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters," but its not very widely available, and i wanted to avoid no one being able to watch it like what happened with "Zed and Two Naughts." If you can catch mishima, (or zed for that matter), please do, but don't miss Lars.

  2. I watched this out of the blue about 2 weeks ago. I wasn't sure what it was all about going into it, but ended up enjoying it. The main actor is really good, the story is something new and it's pretty touching.

  3. I've wanted to watch this for a while, once I finish dexter I'll get on this. Or someone could put it in the usual place, pretty please.

  4. I watched this with my girlfriend tonight, she thought it was hilarious, and it is charming. The story is very clever, and Gosling was fantastic as Lars, worth watching for sure. Really long and slow though, which would hinder repeat viewings.

  5. saw this yesterday with the family

i just got suckered in into how the whole community went along with it, with or without him there. Gosling did a great job, I really believed it with how he was behaving. The scene where he gives CPR to the bear was the most adorable thing ive seen this year. I got something in my eye when all the flowers were at his porch.

  7. I watched this expecting a comedy about a nerd fucking a sex doll. It turned out to be a well-made drama. I didn't love it but I thought it was really good.

That's what I thought too... tried to enjoy it anyway.
