According to The Hollywood Reporter, Red Eye scribe Carl Ellsworth will pen the script, which will update the story to modern day.

The original was set against the backdrop of an invasion of America by Russia and Cuba, and revolved around a group of youngsters -- including Charlie Sheen and Patrick Swayze -- banding together to fight back.

"The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we're in," explains Ellsworth. "As Red Dawn scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again?"

Don Bradley, who worked as second unit director on Spider-Man 3, The Bourne Ultimatum and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, will make his directorial debut with the film.
Lol, so this is coming from the studio that's working on the new Robocop and will be directed by the guy who worked on Indy 4? TNL is gonna looooooove this!

  2. I thought it said that its being worked on by Red Eye scribe Carl Ellsworth and first time Director Don Bradley.

The only thing that this movie has in connection with the Robocop remake was the studio itself.

Also to despair. You hated it cause Mother Russia lost.

  3. Bradley was a second unit director on KOTCS, but he's going to full-out direct this one. You're right about the Robocop reference though. I misread it.

  4. Red Dawn is awesome. Go Wolverines!

  5. so it's really true, hollywood has run out of fresh ideas
