2008
- compared to a decade ago, much less of my free time goes to gaming
- being in Japan allows me to enjoy arcade gaming still, more than a decade ago
- very heavy emphasis on retro as modern becomes less appealing, consequence of age or market conditions?
- still don't use emus, something about the real thing that is different
45% Arcade (VF, random other new stuff, retro boards at home)
35% Retro (PC-98, FM Towns, Famicom, Super Famicom, Mark III, Mega Drive, PC Engine, 3DO, Neo Geo)
5% PS2 (random stuff....Red Star, Kim Possible 5, Policeman Shinjuku 24 Hours, etc)
5% DS (whenever I am on business trips or have prolonged travel)
5% PC (new stuff since I just built this SFF with high end parts in 2007, doujin stuff)
3% 360 (when I did play VF5 online, great for HD DVDs)
1% PSP (occasionally bring it along with the DS)
1% Wii (Ghost Squad, played 2 hours worth of Yukinon aka US Heavenly Guardian?)
0% PS3 (it's a Bluray player not a game machine)
1998
- played tons of arcade ports (shooters/fighters) during this time especially on the Neo Geo and Saturn
- Saturn died off, Dreamcast came in but the fighting still remained
- PS was used a lot more that year as system making titles were released
30% Neo Geo (KOF98, Last Blade 2, Metal Slug 2, Real Bout 2, one of the best Neo years)
25% SS (all of those arcade ports when we could never touch the originals)
25% PS (MGS, Doublecast, PS really took off that year)
15% Retro (would you even call it retro then?)
4% DC (VF3tb)
1% N64 (probably touched it but can't remember what)
1988
- as a kid, limited funds means arcade play is rare and playing at home is the norm
- happily oblivious to what import gaming was
20% Arcade (Double Dragon!)
80% NES
