  3. I should have started this thread earlier instaed of last minute. I wouldnt have minded taking a few requests for TNL'ers. B-Ri, I have that book (it was free!) but told a friend about it my free swag, she heard about it, and wanted it. Sorry man , if she changes her mind Ill get it out to you - Kuro or Wasabi might have gotten a second one....

This thing was pretty cool. One day wasnt nearly enough to see everything. That and unbeknownst to me the exhibition floor closes at 7 O fucking clock not midnight like I thought. So, I didnt get nearly enough pics, or buy as much shit as I wanted.

Met up with Kuro (pretty cool guy), he's gonna have a few good stories to tell involving Street Fighter 4 and Yoshinoro Ono. Wasabi was probably like me, running around trying to see all the sights, and the closest we came to seeing each other was the '24' conference (sorry man). I rushed to the videogaming section right after that hoping to round TNL'ers up there, only to be dissappointed with the early close bullshit.

There were a lot of playable games that I wasnt expecting to see out there. Both Bionic Commando's, Ghsotbusters, both the new Castlevania's (ds and the extremely lolwii version- which wasnt playable), a Joe Madereira God of War-ish game I've never heard of called Dark Riders, Dead Space, etc. etc. I was impressed.

But, yeah, we need to involve a TNL San Diego meet-up around this event at some point. I think it'd be good times if we had more people goin next year...

  4. i cry, cause no one got me the issue it seems

i cry, it was exclusive to comic-con and i am sooo stoked for the series.

  5. What a crazy five days that was, I was exhausted on the drive back and I fell asleep as soon as I got home. A couple of pros this year are:

Yoshinori Ono was there all four days, and he's a very cool guy. I talked with him a bit about Street Fighter and the con and he didn't use one bit of english whne dissecting my terrible japanese. Then he signed my SF Tribute book, my friend's SF Shadaloo hat, then a bunch of stuff for other people that lined up behind us. Even his translator was cool, he set some time aside to talk to me about translating and how to get a gig like that. Ono even walked around by himself for a while each day, I said hi to him so many times he started saying hi whenever he saw me first. On Friday my friend challenged him to a match, Ono looks around for a bit, then signals him to come up the back stairs of the booth. My friend proceeds to beat the living hell out of him. Not that Ono's bad, he's got the basics of the game down, and some advanced techniques. He just doesn't have the pro mindset, which is understandable since he most likely didn't spend everyday playing Street Fighter games like these guys. In short, awesome guy.

SFIV playable at the Capcom booth, and two tournaments a day. All kinds of pros showing up, like Alex Valle and Gene Wong, just to name a few. No John Choi unfortunately. I entered three times and was taken out by either a pro, or someone I knew pretty well and knew they could beat the crap out of me. The cool thing is that most of my matches were very close, could be because of the fact that it's a new game, or because I'm getting better. Anyways, couple things about SF4:

The focus attack is pretty cool. Activate it by holding down the two medium attacks, and an attack will execute when you let them go, or when it's fully charged, then it's unblockable I believe. During the charge animation (while you're holding the buttons) you get auto armor against one hit, right after that hit let the buttons go, you'll attack and stun the opponent. After that you can dash cancel in (I think that takes away gauge) then do whatever you want. It seems the focus can also be used as a parry, but couldn't do this myself. Also, the focus is used for breaking like in MotW.

EX moves are in, and work the same way as in 3S. Everybody gets four from a fully charged bar.

The revenge gauge only fills when you're hit, like Samurai Spirits, and when it's half full you can use your ultra. I was depending on that for supers since I kept using my super gauge for EX moxes.

Blanka is hella cheap. The EX Blanka Ball goes through any normal fireball, and possibly super fireballs. It has built in roll cancelling like in CvS2. Also his slide now goes under Ryu and Ken's fireballs too. Obviously he was a popular tourney choice, along with Zangief and his powerful throw.

Ken has his target combo from 3S, close standing m. punch -> f. punch. Before I think only medium shoryuken would connect, now fierce shoryuken is the new combo finisher. Popular in the tourney also, same for Ryu.

Anyways, enough SF4, other con stuff.

Oh wait, one more thing. Capcom had a SF Tribute book, a bunch of different artists drawing SF characters in their own art style. A lot of Udon guys of course, Gabe from Penny Arcade, Adam Hughes, and a lot others. All the artists there were totally cool with signing their art in the book, and having a little art discussion right after. Even got to talk to two of my favorite Udon guys: Alvin Lee and Omar Dogan. (btw, Ono likes Dogan's art too)

A bunch of guys walked around wearing blonde wigs, wife-beater shirts and jeans, turned out they were promoting Hamlet 2. They gave my friends and I a bunch of tickets to a pre-screening of it, which is awesome because I've been wanting to see this movie since I saw a trailer before the new Indiana Jones. The movie turns out to be fucking awesome, so awesome that I'm going again Aug. 22nd when it comes out. After the lead actor and the writers came out and answered some questions, all great people. If you liked the South Park movie do yourself a favor and see this.

Got to meet Jetman, awesome guy. Too bad he couldn't get to the show floor, or he couldn't get Filippi's with us. Best pizza in town. Thanks for filling me in on the 24 panel, SF4 made me miss just about every panel I wanted to see, except for the SF4 panel. Hopefully I'll be moved out soon so I can get back online. I did see the Joe Mad game, looks awesome, I'm gonna do some research on it later tonight. I have some pics too, think I'll put them up when I get off work.
    All is well.

  6. Sounds like a pretty awesome time.

  8. I feel incredibly lame for missing the Con this year.

  9. I gave you a link to the ME mini comic scans, B-Ri. It's not like you can't see what's inside even if you don't get a physical copy.

  10. I had a pretty good time, I went Friday and Sunday. Wanted to meet up with Jetman but between trying to see everything (along with what my fiancee and my bro wanted to do) it was kind of hard. I sat through the WoW panel and Jim Butcher panel (yawn to both) just to make sure I got into the 24 panel.

I was really impressed with all the games they had at the con. The Force Unleashed looked pretty good. I will be back next year and we will have to set something up not last minute.
