Thread: R-Type Dimensions

  1. I said earlier it looked shitty, so there's another vote.

Especially when considering Super R-Type is half the game with none of those features and goes for $8 on VC.
    He's talking about Pulstar.

  2. Super R-Type on VC for $8 is a terrible deal. It's half the levels of R-Type II, downgraded for SNES (with slowdown) and the other levels were SNES-exclusive. It wasn't a terrible game, but not too great. R-Type III was better, but still not as good as the original arcade R-Type.

R-Type Dimensions for probably $10 will be a tremendously good deal -- Full R-Type and R-Type II arcade games with both original graphics and remade HD graphics plus new angled perspective, that are all switchable on-the-fly, 2 player co-op, plus other modes, leaderboards, and more. There's no question what I'd buy.

If you didn't have the full coin-op arcade machine in your home, this was the best way to play R-Type in the late 80s, if you wanted a more faithful rendition than what the PC-Engine / TurboGrafx-16 could offer:

    R-Type on the Sharp X68000

It blew away all other home computers versions, including MSX, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, Atari ST and Amiga!

I don't think any home port until R-Types toppled the Amiga conversion of R-Type II.

I disagree, the 1991 Amiga version of R-Type II was nowhere near the quality of the 1989 X68000 port of the original.

Amiga R-Type II: significant downgrade from the arcade
X68000 R-Type: nearly exact to the arcade

I meant for R-Type II specifically.

  8. I hope it's not a shooter/TBS
You don't have to be smart; you don't have to know the facts, you just have to be confident.

  9. The 3D remake looks pretty good, simple, not getting too crazy or ambitious. There are certainly MUCH worse XBLA games out there, and XBLA Shooters. Looks like a solid packaged for R-Type fans, unless its got some bizarre game crippling issues like that GBA Port of R-Type.

That "Arcade Mode" is one of the dummer things I have seen though. Last time I played an arcade cabinet I was not standing so far back that I could see the joystick and buttons while I looked at the screen.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

It helps that the only other ports were on ST and Game Boy. R-Type II on PC Engine is just the second half of R-Type 1 so it doesn't count.
