Thread: Stargate: Universe

  1. between this post and the one in the heroes thread all your credibility in this forum is gone

  2. Being right apparently makes you less credible. Got it. Tough shit, man. I liked Atlantis but it was aimless and drifting nowhere. At least now they have a plan with some focus.

    And Sylar is the only reason Heroes doesn't suck. Does it somehow now fill you with optimism that his scenes are the ones that make the show this time around? It may be a step in the right direction to put characterization back in your characters so they have lives and aren't just cartoon retards, but a step in the right direction in a field of shit is still going to make your boots stink.

  3. I remember when atlantis had the plan they're applying to this new one and was touted as a maturer, darker and more drama oriented stargate... then the end of season 1 came and the "lost expedition" had a goddamn spaceship and regular contact with earth, and by season 3 we had awesome stuff like the bumbling buffoon character richard kind played and by the end of season 5 pretty much everybody had enough of it (edit: to be fair, the downfall of this show was a combination of shitty scriptwriting and scifi meddling; apparently the producers wanted to spend half of season 4 drifting lost in space but scifi said solve it in 42 minutes, other misc. things like that)

    I foresee that exact same scenario out of this show, despite the fact that they are clearly trying to market to the BSG crowd...

    also if fucking LOU DIAMOND PHILLIPS isn't throwing up huge red flags, well

    yeah they aren't even trying to hide it

  5. Sooo, whats the story of why all of these random people are being brought to Cheyenne Mountain/ the Gate? Dinner and brunch?

  6. You know, I associate with quite a few nerds of different varieties, and none of them like Stargate. Who watches these shows?

  7. I've got a friend who owns all the DVDs. He's offered to loan them out to me whenever I wanted, but I've never been able to make it through even one episode of any of the SG serieseseses.

    But yeah, I know people who are rabid fans of just about every sci-fi series you can think of. But apart from him, I've never met anyone who watched these shows enough to justify its prolificity.
    Look out, man, Wooly's gone ape-shit.

  8. I love SG-1 and what I saw of Atlantis. But it doesn't start to really get going until all the actors have settled into their characters.

    This is true. McKay was one of my least favorite characters when he showed up on SG-1 and I didn't really like him for most of the first season of Atlantis but by the end of the series he's my favorite character in the Stargate universe.

  10. the trick in enjoying stargate is to not take it seriously

    1) the goa'uld (and ori, I suppose) are so fucking over the top that you can't take them seriously anyway;

    2) each episode is pretty self-contained, while there is serialization you can probably hop in at any random episode and figure out what's going on;

    3) the writing is thick with humour and even pokes fun at itself, and this becomes really evident after they moved from showtime to scifi syfy

    and finally, 4) Hammond (swats head) of Texas rules
