What was even better than seeing how the puzzle pieces fit together at the end was realizing that some things were even puzzle pieces at all and had a place in the overall narrative.

Definitely not the same as before but just as good in its own way once it got going.

This season sucked. HARD. For Arrested Development anyway.

I guess people are in denial because they waited so long? It'll probably take a few years before everyone admits how bad this season was in comparison to the first three. When I can go multiple episodes at a time without even chuckling, something is horribly wrong. Some of it was straight-up painful unfunny. Nearly all the Tobias/Fantastic 4 bullshit, for inst.

Michael's always been the show's straight man, the first episode just ratchets up his character flaws to 11 and casts him headlong into Homer Simpson levels of ineptitude and stupidity.

Michael is no longer a likable character. The first episode killed him. The season was mostly doo doo, but it had it's moments. Everything with GOB was great.

One thing I loved about the show's initial run was the cleverly interweaving storylines per episode. I'd only ever seen that pulled off with such panache in the later seasons of Seinfeld. I'm sure it's been done now in various shows, but I don't watch a lot of sitcoms. Applying the same principles across an entire season is very cool, and must have been quite the daunting undertaking. Unfortch, the end product just isn't particularly funny most of the time.

Man, they tried way too hard sometimes, too. That giant "her?" hanging in the church? Eye-rolling.

They spent too much time referencing jokes from the first 3 seasons. Seemed a little desperate. I'm gonna watch it again with Rebecca and see if it's any better the 2nd time around.

It's so fucking spazz, the second time is way better just to see all the shit you missed and in-jokes on future episodes.

Until recently, I had only seen random episodes of this show. Over the past couple of weeks I power watched from start to finish and I really loved season 4. I thought it fit right in with everything about the show.
