Thread: Canadian Election Thread 2008

  1. So it appears we have another Conservative minority government, though it might inch toward majority if BC goes all blue apparently.

And not that this is any surprise but Elizabeth May is a joke, here's what she said after conceding she wouldnt win tonight:

"We ran an exuberant, a joyful, and a positive campaign and if the kids five years and up could have voted I would have won by a landslide," she said

  2. Why the fuck would she run against Peter McKay? This kind of unrealistic idealism is why the Green party will always be an idea, not a reality. She should have gone with a riding she was stronger in.

I think a Conservative Minority is the best thing for this country. I would have liked to see the majority because it would have been interesting to see the kind of progress they could have made with their campaign, but having someone looking over your shoulder is a good thing.

One thing in this campaign I learned is that Stephan Dion didn't want Justin Trudeau to run for office based on the fact that he was the only other candidate that could challenge him for the Liberal leadership. He made him run in a hostile riding in Quebec... and Justin STILL won. Not that Steven Harper is much better, but holy fuck Dion is a jealous cunt.

Guess who called the upset? THIS GUY!

    I'm fucking awesome.

I expected tears but there were none. This story writes itself! I'm so giddy!

Interesting. Where'd you hear this from.

You do realize that the Trudeau legacy will live on, right? Dion's just delaying the inevitable. First Ignatieff, then Trudeau.

That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Now I'm glad they didn't get any seats. It's sad because the Green candidates in our two ridings are fucking awesome.

  6. Just when you thought you were out, they drag you back in!

Yesterday the Tories decided it was time to see just how far they could push their luck while running a minority government. In their economic update they announce that the entire country was for sale and that political parties would no longer get any federal money, in a move that everyone sees as a blatant attempt to kill the Federal Liberals.

But instead it seems to have given the opposition some steel. The liberals have introduced a non confidence motion intended to bring down the Conservatives because a deal has been reached with the NDP and the Bloc to from a coalition government. Yes that means that a separatist party will now form a portion of the federal government.

  7. And this coalition will last exactly how long?

Canadian politics finally gets interesting! Sort of.

  8. It will last about a week I'm guessing. But that should be long enough to teach Harper not to act as though he has an unstoppable majority just because the opposition is going through a transitional period.

It's sad that Canadian politics is about to make Italian politics look boring.

  9. Liberal-NDP pact aims to form coalition, topple Conservatives and install Dion as PM

so how's that work, I thought Dion had resigned

  10. So did Canada elect their War Chief or whatever the hell you guys worship up there besides Rush and Bret Hart?
