Variety is reporting that Disney has set McG to direct "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo," a family film that is being fast tracked by the studio.

McG, who most recently helmed "Terminator: Salvation," had multiple studios vying for his next slot. Sources said he will be paid $8 million against 7% of gross.

Sean Bailey ("Tron 2.0") is producing with McG's Wonderland Sound and Vision.

Scripted by Bill Marsilli, the film is an origin story of Nemo as he creates his warship, the Nautilus. The characters come from the Jules Verne novel.

I saw the '50s Kirk Douglas original the other day and was amazed at how well it still holds up. Great movie.

I dunno, he's seemed to have matured quite a bit in some of the Terminator interviews he's been in. I'll reserve judgement until we see how that turns out.

Seems they're talking about a straight-to-video thingie. I'm sure these plans will change, and this title will eventually receive a vastly more appropriate IMAX release.

The new film will be updated to reflect modern military realities and will be set during the current Iraq War. World Wrestling Entertainment, which has beefed up film development under its WWE Studios banner, will produce the new "Missing" pic along with Andrew Stevens ("Heist").
