Season 2 and 3 might as well be a different show than what season 1 was.
The last season ties everything up pretty well but it's a big change from previous seasons

I stopped watching around season 2 or 3. I can't remember, but the show was getting stale because it was following the same CSI formula every episode. Also every time I saw or heard Lincoln Lee I wanted to punch him in the fucking face. I got back into it when Peter re-appears (I think?) until the end.
If it was lincoln lee, then it must have been season 3. His first appearance was the season 2 finale.
It's a serial, so it's going to have the same formula every week, just like Bones, House, Buffy, Smallville, Supernatural, or whatever.
That shit annoys me too, which is why I have punched out of every series sometime around the 5th or 6th season.
The key is to have an interesting overall arch going on and to make sure every episode gives you a bit more info on that arch.
It's what made a formula show like Veronica Mars interesting.
Or have interesting characters (like the asshole doctor in House or Nip/Tuck).
Peter was only gone for three or so episodes, so you didn't miss much.
I like that when things start to get stale, they do a musical, or the 80s thing, or show what the other side's Fringe team is up to.
Where the show is now (in the mid 3rd season) is quite a leap from where it began. Whoever took the helm and set a new course deserves to be commended.

Didn't like 90% of anything going on with the other side's fringe team. It felt more syfy channel level once all that started. Which I'm fine with if that's what it would have been from the beginning.
