Thread: Wedding Videos

  1. I came in here thinking it was a sequel to Wedding Crashers.

    Fail.
I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

  2. Look for "I just got fired" post from Toupee in 1 month.

  3. I just got fired.

  4. For real?

  5. #15
    It wasn't even a month.

  6. For the future (if you get hired again)... shotgun mics are good for ambient/secondary sound, for the ceremony you want to have a lav mic on the groom (this will pick up the bride and the priest as well). If you are nervous about the lav mic failing then throw an iRiver on the groom as well or even on one of the church speakers. Just using the shotgun mic is a bad idea as the acoustics in the church you are shooting at my suck and/or the bride and groom may speak really low and you will be stuck with shit audio. If the couple agrees to one camera then just keep yourself positioned in the center of the aisle close to the couple on a tripod, preferable w/ a dolly. During the Homily you can get some b-roll shots of the bridal party/parents and whatever else you think you may need.

  9. Just kidding guys.

Naw, it all went okay. Two cameras at the ceremony, one in front, one in back. Could have used a second one up front; the best angle is on the groom with a portrait of the bride, and it would have been nice to have the opposite. Oh well.

Sound: Turns out the priest was miked, and we had a direct sound output. And it sounds like crap, the priest's voice is just booming through. The only time I used it is when the bride and groom speak as it picked them up pretty well. For the most part though I just used the audio I recorded there which sounds decent enough after I cleaned out the noise and rumble. By no means is it perfect, but it's clear enough to understand for sure.

The reception was fun. Testimonies from the guests are by far the best part. I cut them all into one sequence - the music in the background is different for each one, so I figured I might as well make it into one jarring segment rather than a bunch scattered throughout. The entrace/best man's toast/blessing caught us a bit offguard and we didn't have tripods ready, and the first dance/bride & dad dance/groom & mother dance/money dance took foreeeever. Also in are cake cutting, bouquet toss, garter toss. I had two cameras on everything; one slightly elevated and another on the floor, so cutting between everything is pretty smooth - the bad news is the footage from one camera is much darker, so the color's a bit off, but worse things could have happened.

BTW, I got paid $400. A bargain for my boss, I know, but I'll take it.

If anyone's interested in seeing it I'm thinking about uploading it to google video or something. I can't figure out how to get around the 10 minute limit on youtube.

  10. $400 ain't bad for having no experience... good deal.
