Thread: Sega Dreamcast VGA Boxes

  1. Sega Dreamcast VGA Boxes

I'd like to know if I can get any ideas about which Sega VGA box I should buy and where I can get one.

    Is it worth it?

I'm not looking for the most expensive one, just something with quality that will serve its purpose.

Can someone also tell me what brand VGA Box is on Ebay, there is a company called Level Six that is selling some on Ebay but they don't say what brand it is, is it any good?

  2. You are cheating your poor DC if you are not using a VGA box. Get one. The DC VGA boxes are also one of the rare peripherals that 3rd partys don't screw up. The picture will look exactly the same no matter what you get. Just make sure you don't get a "universal system" VGA box. They're crap. DC specific and you're fine.

  3. I have the Performance brand box. I think some of the other ones - including the first-party model - have to be disconnected and reconnected in order to use both a PC and a DC on the same monitor.

The picture on some games looks markedly different when seen through the VGA box. The first time I saw Phantasy Star Online on my computer monitor, I was dazzled.

  4. I bought a naki vga box for $10 and it is fine for me. Does anyone have any information about the device/cord ncsx has that says it allows you to play all dc games through a monitor? Anyway, if you are in ny multimedia 101 , on 8th, has some vga boxes for $20 as does jnl.

The biggest difference is progressive scan on all VGA games. Once you see progressive scan, you will never ever want to got back to interlaced for high res games.

  6. i have this little blue Naki one, had it for over a year and it works very well and it was cheap.

Yeah, that's just an upscan device so it doesn't display games using a VGA signal. It's sorta like turning your monitor into a TV or something... But even games that are VGA-compatible will not look nearly as good as using an authentic VGA-Box.

  8. I have the HAIS VGA box, bought for $12 at Electronics Boutique. Works like a charm on the games that support it. I had a problem with a few games, but for the most part, games look MUCH better.

I am in NYC, but have never heard of this store. Where exactly is this place located?

I know JNL in Chinatown. Is there another in midtown?

  9. maybe it is multimedia 1.0/ anyhow, it is in the east village on st. marks between 3rd and 2nd ave(by mondo kim's). They are sometimes pricey but carry a lot of goods. Let me know if you have info on any good shops for dreamcast/saturn.
