I'm just under 24 hours now, which is somewhat scary, since I couldn't start it until last Saturday. So 1/9th of the elapsed time since then has been spent in-game. I decided to clean up all of my Errands prior to going after the sky pirates. I had enough money to get the best items in every slot when coupled with the Errand rewards, so I am expecting to be in good shape once I leave the shore. I'm still enjoying it more than any JRPG since FFXII, and it seems to have less filler than even that, which is awesome. About the only things that could ruin in at this point would be a SMT-style impossible boss because of not having the exact right familiars or a ridiculous story twist. Since this is somewhat of a Lunar-esque story that is pleasant yet predictable, I think the latter is unlikely.
I'm exactly at that same point, and I'm doing the same thing. Bounties, errands, grinding... I wanted to put in a few hours today and ended up playing for 7.
I think Xenoblade was up there back when it was called "Monado" and before it became a Gamestop-Nintendo website only thing (also before it was actually coming out here). Speaking of which, i know someone who never played Xenoblade.
I finally got to start playing last night after shoveling a couple of half-finished games into the Complete pile. I only played up to the big tree but so far it's a total charmer. Thank god it told me to push the joystick to walk and hit X to talk, though, because I'd have been completely lost otherwise.
Is it bad that, so far, I'm viewing the story as a fantasy cooked up by a grieving child to pave over his guilt from being responsible for his mother's death? "Yes, I'm a magic fairy trapped in a toy your mother made, but you freed me and now you can maybe save her life by coming to this magic land where you'll learn to be a hero and prevent others from being as brokenhearted as you are!"
Did anyone else notice a difficulty spike at the Glittering Grotto? I managed to get through it, but it seemed far harder than the Vault of Tears, for example.
