Try Isolation, which is basically Alien + The Thing set on a remote Irish farm. Rather solid for a relatively unknown horror film.

I also dig In the Mouth of Madness. Carpenter + Lovecraft = good. Sam Neill is so great as the clueless Trent.

Speaking of Lovecraft, the recent version of Dagon was closer to the source material than Re-Animator or From Beyond. Good stuff.

I once told my (then new) girlfriend that The Evil Dead was my all time favorite movie. We sat down one evening and watched it in my room at school, and just as shit started to go down in the movie she had a revelation

"Oh my God... it's... it's that movie" Apparently when she was 8 or so, she went to her friend's house for a birthday sleepover and they had the choice between the princess movie and the horror movie. Well she was the only one who wanted to watch the princess movie. They put on this movie and it scarred the souls of everyone in the room apparently. The look of disgust and horror as she rewatched this suppressed memory was pretty awesome.

that's awesome man, Bruce is a cool mother fucker. I got to meet him once at a book signing, I showed him my Evil Dead tattoo and he loved it.......he also told me I was fucking crazy
