Thread: NHL 2008-2009 Regular Season Thread

  1. Your LW's are all hurt and all of my decent goalies are benched (Huet, Theodore, Giguere). I had to drop Huet and Theodore and try to find lesser goalies on lesser teams that actually PLAY. God, I'm so fucked.

  2. God damn I hate those Big Head Twins (henrik and daniel sedin) in Vancouver. Such a frustrating game to watch, especuially with Luongo taking the night off and some rusty no-name in net, and they played the Rangers last night in New York.

So many wide shots, or missed opportunities infront. Letting them answer our goals almost immediatley, etc. Koivu scores twice (powerplay, and short hand) which is awesome, but not when the D takes a nap right after. Sigh.

We better rape the shit out of St. Louis to get it out of our system tomorrow.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

The Devils have figured out how to get their power play to work. They get a 2 minute 5-on-3 and then have two of the three defenders break their sticks.

For real. I was tearing my hair out over that tonight.

We scored free tickets through Seton Hall tonight, lower bowl, near center ice (section over from club,) and had a great night. Got on the jumbo-tron. Free hotdogs. Free pucks after the game. Shorthanded goal. 2 goals in ten seconds. Sat next to some knowledgeable fans and had some good convo. I really do like Zubrus, even though I know Yoshi doesn't. He's been playing very well this year and had a good night tonight all over the place. I wonder, when Rolston comes back do you keep Zubrus at top center and put Rolston at wing where he belongs? Dropping Gio wouldn't be so bad...

ALTHOUGH Gio has been playing well RECENTLY, but he still doesn't have a shot and it really unbalances a top scoring line.

Langs is another guy who's been playing much better of late, but his shot isn't as good as it's supposed to be.

Great to see scoring from the d-men. We need that, we need teams to respect the point shots so open up room down low. Salmela is still Salmela...some mistakes/lack of speed in his own end, great shot and tries to make plays in the offensive zone. I like him in the lineup.

It's also nice to see the Devils beating the teams they should be beating. These points are the ones we really can't let go to stay in contention. Tampa will be a tough out, but we should take that one on Sunday as well if we don't get into penalty trouble.

It's ALSO nice to see another game in which the backup goalie of the night let in only 2 goals.

The fight was awesome. Brutal win.

Madden being out...Jesus stop getting hurt already. I'm sure it's just a bruise on his heel after catching that puck, probably swelled up, but if it's a break I'm going to curse. Also, first shortie of the season.

We still have big problems breaking out.

Big night for me fantasy wise, 10 points with 7 skaters playing, +6, 25sog, 7 goals. Morrow's out for 6 months....so, the season basically. Turco is looking worse and worse.

Oops, I was toying with the idea of Sabourin and accidentally picked him up. I need to have a spot clear for Hagman to fill in for Morrow. Toronto may suck but the guy shoots dozens of pucks and scores on enough of them.

I'm watching the rebroadcast but it's the Islanders broadcast, and the announcers were just talking about how Clarkson is an agitator, but unlike "other" agitators, Clarkson is willing to back it up/drop the gloves without explicitly mentioning AVERY

Wow, Salvador's goal was so lucky.

  7. The problem with that is Avery averages 6 fights a season and actually has a little bit more talent than a guy like Clarkson or Orr.

Interesting. I was always under the impression (at least at one time) that you can shoot on a rebound, as long as you're still making way towards the goalie and the puck is in front of him. i.e. take a long wrister, continue skating in and wrist the rebound.

I'm fucking BAFFLED how the All Star picks are chosen. Tim Thomas didn't even get a nod. iirc Luongo got a nod without even starting a game when the picks came out.

That would be penalty shots. You were probably under this misguided belief due to that heathen sport soccer, which does allow you to do that sort of bullshit.

  10. Actually I think years of 16-bit hockey put that in my head. I could be completely wrong on that as well.
