Oh Man. Smith just went down...he's been such a bright spot on the lineup, possibly the only one, he needs to remain healthy. Whew...he's still in net.

I suspect it was the use of "sloppy seconds" that caught their ears.
It's still idiotic. I could see if he was blasting an official or the league or something, but this has >< to do with the NHL.
I actually agree with this. It goes against prior precedent (The NHL fined a guy for using Nigger on camera once, no suspension), bt I LIKE this precedent, and I don't see it as a pussification of the league at all. One of my favorite things about hockey is how the shit ends on the ice, then you shake hands and go home. This is a case of taking the shit off the ice. Even though this wasn't a physical assault or a serious verbal assault, it was slanderous and I completely agree that he should be suspended until he can learn to leave it on the goddamned ice, before it causes real world trouble.
The NFL, NBA, and MLB should all do this too.
The guy he was slandering was Phaneuf.
I think it's bullshit to be suspended for talking about an ex-girlfriend. He didn't "slander" anyone.
(In law, defamation (also called calumny, libel, slander, and vilification) is the communication of a statement that makes a false claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government or nation a negative image.)
He didn't make anything up. It was his ex chick, he was there first, and who gives a fuck about Phaneuf and his girlfriend? It was a classless move but suspension "indefinitely" over something like this? Please. He should be fined and let's all move along.
Sure, he didn't make anything up, but it's still not right to intentionally seek out a camera just to talk shit about a player's personal life off the ice, to the media. Fuck that. Sit down until you can keep your goddamn mouth shut off the ice.
""I'm really happy to be back in Calgary; I love Canada," the Ontario native said. "I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don't know what that's about, but enjoy the game tonight."
Yeah, didn't I post that? Edit: Oh, nope. I didn't on this forum... He also sought out someone with a camera just to make that comment.
What if he makes an inflammatory comment like that and then someone decides to go out and hurt him, on or off the ice, intentionally, with something dirty? It's not right to take it outside of the game. Players' personal lives need to be off-limits on camera.
I'm sure it won't be a long suspension, unfortunately for Dallas.
