In order to be an effective devil's advocate you've got to be able to see the perspective properly not just from the point of view of both parties, but also from a POV that makes sense. To continue my analogy from earlier, if Sony ran the US they'd throw all the gays out of the country rather than risk the bad publicity that a group of douchebags might bring them. The problem is that while they appease the douchebags, they piss off everyone else, and that includes the larger group they were trying to please in the first place by sucking up to its loony fringe elements. Their actions arise from a perspective of total ignorance of their market, which is far more insulting to the people comprising the market than the original "offence".

You have to understand that Sony (and every company in the world) pisses of somebody. It's the nature of business that what you do is offensive to some group, somewhere. At some point Sony is going to publish Killzone 2, for example, and offend a whole group of people who feel that M-rated games are evil. Sony also cheerfully let Jack Thompson and the people he represents work themselves up into histrionics over allowing GTAIV on their system. Plus, as I mentioned earlier, Sony just didn't care about whatever church it was getting upset over Resistance.

Basically, in Sony's eyes, white people = harmless, Muslims = terrifying. This whole thing stinks of fear rather than a considered reaction to circumstance.

Uhm okay, well as I said I don't agree with Sony, but when putting things on a balance scale in a fucked up way yes it comes down to that what you wrote. And that's what it is all about, when one group make up noise.. nothing happens at bests it ends up on shows like SNL, tonight show etc etc. Westerns are used to using humor to light things up. When the other group make noise, boycotts, burning flags heck some plundering here and there and in extreme situations things just turns to the worst (been happening a lot more over the years). It's the way it is and Sony probably thought of that. Heck I do remember last year there was some issues with Holland and Dubai cause some politic group leader here maybe you heard of him (Wilders) who made a critic Inet movie about what mostly seems to be a harsh (critic) reality p.o.v on the islam and they boycutted the famous dutch tullips, holland lost a few millions, business relationships were damaged blah blah blah, not sure if they talked things through but it was headlines over here. So yeah piss off a group that has almost no affect for Sony if they make some noise, or piss off a group that will take time to rebuilt the reputation that was built for years via other products meanwhile losing millions?

What pisses me off is if this game was THE reason for me to buy a ps3 (it is just that next year i'll be doing a big migration from europe back to caribbean i'll buy a ntsc ps3 then) it would have affect me in a minor way or a significant way, just cause of some religious issues that I have nothing to do with. I don't mind other religions or anything, but when it starts to affect my freedome of what I can or can't do/listen to/say to etc etc, then we have a problem.

I was so hyped up for this game that i was going to buy a piece of shit 3...Uhhh i mean a playstaion 3, But the more i thought about how much time im going to have to waist of my life building levels the more i said forget it. I took my pre order from game stop off of it and put it on something else. This game could end up being a big bomb.
