Thread: Election Thread 2016

  1. I'm hoping the "pick a new candidate until they prove they are fucking retarded" cycle ends on Huntsman, although it looks like it'll probably die with Santorum.

It's pretty crazy that Perry, Bachmann, Cain, Romney, Gingrich and almost Santorum were all considered frontrunners in this debacle.

  2. That's because there are a lot of hardcore Christian fundies in Iowa, and well, Romney is not One of Them.

Bachmann is a woman and the Bible says that women just don't do things like that.
Perry disappeared as soon as people realized he really is just a dumber George W. Bush.
    Cain is a dog.
    Gingrich is... Gingrich.

All in all, the truth is that Santorum was always the best candidate for those people. Bachmann would have been were she a man. Santorum will disappear faster than Huckabee in 2008 because he's an even more terrible person than Huck. And anyone who googles his name will learn about an afterproduct of gay sex.

  3. Romney's got NH in the bag. Where it goes from there? Who knows. I really want to see Santorum win just because he'll lose the general election by double, maybe even triple, digits! At that point, the fiscal conservatives in the GOP will finaly seperate themselves from the evangelical weirdos.

  4. So, has anyone checked out this website: https://www.popvox.com/

It's basically a place for you to look at bills and easily contact your representatives. It feels like some of the information is missing; and it would allow a lot of really shitty messages to be sent. But it's also supposed to track how well you align with your current rep. I can't seem to get it to work here, but everything else works. Just got a ton of "We got your message" responses from my reps.

  5. Bachmann's out. Perry probably too.

  6. Quick question, what is the advantage of the lobbying system we currently have?
    Check out Mr. Businessman
He bought some wild, wild life
On the way to the stock exchange
He got some wild, wild life

  7. Dolla dolla bills.

    1. It provides rich people more-or-less direct access to politicians.
    2. Politicians can use it to pretend that they are representing the people, since lobbying is allowed because it is considered free speech.

If you don't like what your rep is doing you should just hire a lobbyist!

  9. I mean, Lobbying is pretty terrible; but I've worked for an Organ Procurement Organization, where it was used for the benefit of people. But those are so rare and in between.

  10. Well, I mean, theoretically, any organization XYZ can hire lobbyists to counter some other organization.

In reality it obviously doesn't work like that. Corporations and the ultra-rich are the big dogs and nobody can reasonably breach the walls they have been building up over time. The only thing that could reasonably counter corporate power is unions, but, hey, we know what is happening there.
