I'm surprised you haven't seen it. I think you'd love it.

    Definitely worth a watch.

edit: good god that preview looks awful. Worst unnecessary remake since Let Me In?

  3. Which remakes aren't unnecessary? Cape Fear and, uh...

    Hm.

  4. The Thing with Kurt Russell wasn't unnecessary.
I'm not a devious man by nature... but when you're unarmed, your tactics might gonna be downright Archimedean.

  5. That's a really good one. (the same-titled prequel is not)... Alien is a pretty good remake of The Thing From Another World, too.

  6. Like half of the westerns with Clint Eastwood are remakes and those are all good. The Magnificent Seven is also a pretty great remake of Seven Samurai from what I've heard (its been on my to-watch list for years).

Me, specifically? Why do you think that?

I believe I already ranted about one of the main reasons I've never watched the original in another thread here...the octopus scene and my objections to it. Cultural differences regarding acceptable cuisine aside, I really have a thing for octopuses, and the idea that a live one is eaten on-camera for reals just isn't something I can hang with.

Of course, considering the way everyone jizzes about this movie, I realize that I might be doing myself a disservice by not having seen it. Part of me thinks it would be okay to just skip the scene, but the bleeding heart pansy inside feels that even just watching the movie would condone the death of an intelligent, living creature for entertainment purposes. Gay, I know...I'm sure I'll get around to watching it someday, and probably be underwhelmed after all the fucking hype. We'll see.

Worst unnecessary remake since Let Me In?
Let Me In might have been the most pointless remake ever...pretty much a shot-for-shot recreation of the original, and the few instances where it deviated (BAD CG) made it worse.

Taken on it's own, however, it's a good movie...if only because it apes a great one.

  8. It's a good movie, octopus is delicious, what is the problem.

US Let me In wins for ditching the CG cats.

  9. If you go into Oldboy expecting something amazing you'll be disappointed. It's a good movie, not a great one. Don't buy into hype.

  10. I'm trying not to. While I've seen some amazing movies from that part of the world, I can't count the number of Asian "masterpieces" that I've checked out and been completely disappointed by.
