Thread: The Castlevania thread, or "get your alcarde spear out of my midnight sun"

  1. The Castlevania thread, or "get your alcarde spear out of my midnight sun"

    lets talk about this series.

i never got really into it because im not a big platform jumper but i just picked up bloodlines for the genesis and SoTN for psx. these games have my nuts in a vice grip. wow are they fun.

any huge fans here ? i'd love it if someone would rate the series from worst to best for me, and note for each console cause i know lots of them have been ported around.

and can someone help me with RF resolution on a sega genesis ? the picture is so bad. what are some good alternatives to RF with the gene ?

anyway back to castlevania- these games are great. ive been missing out.

  2. My favorites are:

    SotN (PSX)
    Circle of the Moon (GBA)
    Super Castlevania IV (SNES)
    Castlevania: Bloodlines (Genesis)
    Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse (NES)

The Game Boy Castlevania games are REALLY tough, if you can beat them, you can truly call yourself one of the best Castlevania gamers out there... it's really an exercise in patience as well as frustration.

I really wish I could play Dracula X in all its PC-Engine glory... and Chronicles I haven't played through yet even though I own it.

    Town: Arcadia

  3. A/V cables are really hard to come by for the Genesis (at least the last time I looked). I didn't get one until I bought a Genesis 3 on Ebay. RF adaptors really ruin the quality of the game, but I found that much of the colors are still washed out and blurry anyway when I use the A/V cables.

    Town: Arcadia

  4. If you love C:SotN, you'll love the new one for GBA (title differing for Japanese/English-speaking regions), as it's basically SotN with a whip and music that isn't as good. Damned fun games, I love 'em.

  5. There's no real reason to put off Castlevania Chronicles as any decent gamer can beat it in less than an hour. My favorites in order would be:

    Castlevania SoTn
    Super castlevania 4
    Castlevania 3
    Castlevania Legacy of Darkness
    Castlevania
with Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest coming in last. I didn't like the Gameboy CVs because they felt like you were walking in molasses. And I haven't played enough of Circle of the Moon to judge. Someday I will play Dracula X in its original splendor, not the butchered snes port.

  6. Whee! My 1,001st post. I've already made a Castlevania thread like this. All I can say is that I'm looking forward to Harmony of Dissonance.

  7. Harmony of Dissonance is a great game i beat the japanese one and i cant wait to get the us one so i knwo the story

    i lvoe me my castlevania

  8. My tops for Castlevania:
    1. SotN. Nuff Said.
    2. Super Castlevania 4. Smooth and fun. Beautiful as well.
    3. Bloodlines. Very close to 4 in my book, but the smaller characters and slightly heavier feel make it come in JUST beneath 4. A truly great game though.
    4. Castlevania 3. This is the game that made me love the series.
    5. Castlevania Chronicles. Pretty and fun.
I recently got Dracula X for the SNES (finally!), but havn't gotten a chance to really tear into it yet. As for the GBA Castlevanias...When I get a GBA, they will be mine. As for Castlevania 64, I think that this game catches more hell than it deserves. I enjoyed it and liked the storytelling. Sure, it was 3D, but it wasn't a horrible 3D. Still, I'd rather see future ones play 2D or like Devil May Cry.

Sam: Sick 'em up little buddy."

  9. Oh, and as for the Turbo Duo Dracula X....When I get a Turbo Duo, this one will be mine...Oh so mine.....
"Max: Should I confront, subdue, and pummel the suspected perpetrator Sam?
Sam: Sick 'em up little buddy."

    -Sam & Max, Freelance Police

  10. Classics:
    Symphony of the Night
    Castlevania 1
    Castlevania 3
    Castlevania Bloodlines
    Circle of the Moon

    Not-so-classics:
    Castlevania 2
    Castlevania IV
    Chronicles

Castlevania is the best videogame series ever.
