I don't know if they'll ever "cure" AIDS. I think the only real hope is developing a vaccine. To be quite honest though, companies probably make a good deal of money from it and it's really only a major problem in the Third World. I knew a guy maybe 7 years ago who already had an advanced AIDS case (post HIV) and for all I know he's still alive with all the medicine he was taking (I'm pretty sure he's still alive).

Gods we're actually doing the, "If aids is cured, people will fuck irresponsibily?" Too late they already do. But until this cure is perfected we're just trading HIV for host v. graft and immunosuppressants for life.

There's always a chance for mutation also, there are still some simple and very old viruses around due to mutation which leads to more resistance against the vaccines that used to work when they were cured.
