he's gotten lazy. He doesn't push himself as a director. He the directing equivalent of that guy who always drew the same dark shit in his notebook back in high school.
Pee-Wee's big adventure is exactly the same as Corpse Bride, I understand.
I can't believe I missed this the first time around.
Anyway, my thoughts on the matter are best articulated by my good friend Erik Wolpaw (whom I have never met) in his review of American McGee's Alice:Tim Burton is kind of a hack.The problem with making a dark and disturbing version of Alice in Wonderland is that it's pretty dark and disturbing to begin with, which gives it little training wheels that help cultural firebrands ride it into geniusdom once every eighteen months or so. Masterminding a trippy reinterpretation of Lewis Carroll is like making a version of Crazy Traxi, only crazy! At this point, about the edgiest thing you could do with Alice in Wonderland is try to make it a little less fucking insane.

I think I'm on the trademark TNL Hatorade Bandwagon on this one. Burton hasn't done anything innovative since Sleepy Hollow. Telegram to Tim Burton:

He needs to only do original stuff, if Hollywood wants to do more adapts, give them to a fresh mind like Del Toro or Aronofsky. Otherwise we're just going to keep seeing Dr. Suess versions of all our favorite fairy tales.
