Thread: Official Apple Games Thread

  1. Chaos Rings is on sales for like $5 from its normally ridiculous price so I grabbed that. It's actually pretty good, a little better than I expected.

Yoshi's pet peeve of the day: GameCenter support but no achievements. Fuck you, Capcom. I'll never get that hour-plus I spent 1ccing 1942 for nothing, you assholes.

  3. Achievements or bust?

It's a tie breaker when space and time are limited.

  5. Long as it brings you joy, Yoshi.

  6. Got an iTunes gift card for Christmas and raped the ever loving shit out of the iPad marketplace. Puzzle Agent, Eternal Legacy HD, Chaos Rings HD, Cut the Rope HD, Puzzle Quest 2, Rock Band Reloaded, Dungeon Hunter 2, and World of Goo for no cost of my own. This is going to be a good week at Panera. Rock Band is pretty new and half price, though with the amount of songs you get it's worth about that much. Good stuff though. Puzzle Quest 2 fares MUCH better on the iPad than the phone, though it's a universal app so it's nice to see them trying to please. Eternal Legacy is a Chaos Rings imitator but it does a damn good job of it. Chaos Rings was kind of an indulgence, I played the iphone version a bit but would like to play it on a bigger screen that's not bullshit blown up, and it was half price.

EDIT: Oh, if you haven't played World of Goo yet SOMEHOW, this is pretty much the definitive version. Runs just as well and smooth on the iPad as it would on the PC, with the added benefit of touch controls. GET IT.

  7. Yeah, I'm playing through World of Goo on the iPad now. It really is fantastic.

And here is the 25 highest rated iOS games for 2010 on metacritic.

  8. So my wife got an Ipad for Christmas and I just had to put some Cave shumps on there...

I'll be damned if the control isn't just fine with auto-shoot and that thumb tracking thing they do for ship movement. I never would have thought in a million years it would be playable. Looks like I'll be buying Ipad games.

On a side note, Netflix on Ipad <3

  9. Cave did an amazing job with those ports. I really haven't given them enough time. I should do that today.

I also highly recommend their dual stick 'shooter' Mushihimesama Bug Panic. I don't know how well it will scale up to the iPad, but on the phone it's amazing. I finished the adventure mode a couple of nights ago, and the final boss was one of the best I've ever seen. I'm going to go back and tidy up some of the achievements (although the 'finish all stages without dying' and the 'finish all stages on hard mode' can get fucked). Probably my number one pick for iOS game of the year, and seriously one of my favourite games, ever.

  10. Mushihime-sama Bug Panic plays fine on an iPad for me, but I have big hands. It might be an issue for someone with smaller hands, as the controls end up so far apart. It's also a little weird as even though the control looks analog (and the shooting IS), your character can only move in the 8 cardinal directions.

The one problem I have with the game is that the levels look absurdly repetitive; which is kind of insane considering that's the last complaint you would register against a Cave game normally.
