According to Variety Peter Craig will script the film. Sunrise's Kenji Uchida and Shinichiro Watanabe will serve as associate producers alongside series writer Keiko Nobumoto.
Erwin Stoff will be producing and Joshua Long has been named executive producer.
There's talk that the script is based on the anime's first episode "Asteroid Blues," concerning a the "Red Eye" drug, which speeds up the perception of the user.

That's what basing a movie on the first episode means.

LOL! THE SCRIPT IS TOO AWESOME TO FILM!!!!

Well, here's something I didn't expect to hear: the current script for the planned Cowboy Bebop movie adaptation is just too awesome to be made, according to Keanu Reeves. Speaking with MTV News recently, Reeves -- who has been pushing for the project for awhile and who will star as space cowboy Spike Spiegel when it finally does make it to the big screen -- revealed that the script was finished but that the studio balked when they considered how much money it would take to actually make the film.
"There's a draft of the script, but the writer did such a great job [that] in order to make the movie, you would need half a billion dollars," he explained.
You can hear that comment, as well as Reeves' promise that all of your beloved Cowboy Bebop characters will make an appearance, in the MTV clip below.
Cowboy Bebop is the successful 1998 anime directed by Shinichiro Watanabe. Telling the stories of four space cowboys of dubious backgrounds and motivations, the anime made a killing on American television with its stylish take-offs of classic films, music, and film noir.

As much as I like Cowboy Bebop, it's sort of silly to spend half-a-billion dollars on a semi-obscure nerd-based Keanu Reeves vehicle.
