  2. And as for my list:

    1. Little Big Planet - Honestly, this game is absolutely amazing. The built in levels are fun, and the user made ones are incredible. Plus the addition of the MGS pack changes things up. The game just keeps getting better all the time, I just wish they'd tighten the physics a bit so it wasn't so loose, also maybe lose the limited lives sytem.

    2. Valkyria Chronicles - Holy shit is this game amazing. Seriously people, why the hell haven't you all bought it yet? This is the best strategy RPG since Dragon Force.

    3. Dead Space - So freaking fun, I can't wait for them to make another game in this series. After playing this I don't know how I'm going to be able to deal with RE5's shitty ass step backwards controls.

    4. Lost Odyssey - My favorite regular RPG of the year. It was well made and I like how they made it damn near impossible to overlevel for bosses so you actually had to figure out a strategy. Also the 1000 year dream stories stand as some of the finest writing ever seen in a videogame.

    5. Braid - Wow, just plain wow. Amazingly beautiful and a hell of a lot of fun.

    6. Bionic Commando Rearmed - The original BC was the first videogame I ever beat, so it holds a special place in my heart. I'm so happy that this remake did it justice.

    7. Fallout 3 - You'd think it would be higher on the list, but while it was a damned good game, it just can't live up to the first two games. It does stand as the first game Bethesda has made that I've actually liked though.

    8. Ketsui Death Label DS - yeah, it's just a boss rush, yeah it would be better if we could get the whole game, but whatever. It stands as an insanely fun to play boss rush that has gotten a ton of hours on my DS. Hopefully they hurry the fuck up and finish Deathsmiles, DDP and Ketsui for the 360.

    9. MGS4 - What can I say, it actually succeeds in tying up ALL the loose ends in the series which is incredible. And it pulls off being a fun game while it was at it.

    10. Burnout Paradise - What a great, great racing game. It's beautiful and in general a lot of fun. The only thing that pulled it down the list is a lack of restarting races (it's really fucking obnoxious to have to drive back to the start, especially because...) and the stunt races are really fucking shitty.


    Haven't gotten enough playtime to rate unfortunately:
    Persona 4 - I'll get to it eventually
    Raiden IV - Still need to pick this up.
    KoF '98UM - no fucking arcades around me have gotten this and I'm waiting for the XBLA version to buy it.
    Fantasy Zone 2 - I really don't know why I haven't bought that collection yet, I may do that today.
    Yakuza 2 and Yakuza Genzan - Another that I don't know why I haven't gotten around to playing em yet.

    Being exclusive, especially to PS3, isn't good for sales.

  4. The only 2008 games that I have played extensively are on DS (I just got Wii for Christmas and my latest PS2 game is from 2007) and I haven't played enough of Mega Man 9 to include it (though I like it quite a bit so far and feel that it would probably make it to the list).

    1. Advance Wars Days of Ruin-A very nice TBS for DS that throws out the gimmicky stuff from Advance Wars DS and refines the gameplay. The addition of online is great too.

    2. Castlevania Order of Ecclesia-More refined Metroidvania with a sweet female character, more challenge, and some nice obstacle and enemy placement.

    3. Etrian Odyssey II- A nice old school style RPG with class creation and mapping via the DS touch screen.

    4. Bangai-O Spirits-A sweet action game on the DS that has stuff not in the original like dashing, melee attacks, and a sweet level editor. Downloading and making levels makes it even better, despite the finicky sound load.

    5. Space Invaders Extreme-Yet another nice update to Space Invaders. A sweet scoring system, a variety of different invaders, and nice bosses make this one a blast.

    6. Trauma Center Under the Knife 2 DS-More arcadey surgery! This one has more polished control and more cool viruses to fight.

  5. 1. Prince of Persia: It put the combat where it belongs, on the back burner, but what combat is left is much more entertaining than in the previous installments. Graphically just beautiful. The dialog between the prince and princesses is solid and at time surprisingly amusing. Just a great gaming experience.

    2. Fallout 3: Really expected it to be my GotY, but the early level cap and lack of a really good story, brought it down for me. The atmosphere and combat system were awesome. This game also features the best introduction to the game's story/mechanics ever seen.

    3. Fable 2: Whismical environments and solid story. Bottom line is that it finally is the game Molyneux promised...the first time.

    4. Left 4 Dead: For the first 3-4 it was in my system this was hands down GotY. Hadn't has as much fun playing any game online since I used to play the original Halo online over XboxConnect (CTF, Bloodgulch, Hogs only FTW). The lack of maps and weak verus play bring it down. Still a blast with a group of friends.

    5. GTA IV: Standard GTA, solid story and entertaining. It is what was expected. Nico, is a pretty cool character.

    6. Dead Space: Bash EA all you want, but one thing you can't disagree with is their production values. The atmosphere in this game is incredible. The controls are great, especially after I played the RE5 demo. The length is a little long, but isn't too long, though it does get a little repetitious.

    7. Far Cry 2: Doesn't get nearly the respect it deserves. Feels like a first persons Mercenaries, which isn't a bad thing. Very ambitious games, which more people need to play.

    8. Castle Crashers: 4 person old-school beat 'em up online. That pretty much says it all.

    9. MGS4: Hard to say why I didn't like it more. It was good and had some great boss battles, but didn't match the magic of the first MGS.

    10. Little Big Planet: It's very fun for short periods of time. It has a really cool look. Only problem is that I find myself getting bored after a 30 minute session.

    Need to play (must plays): Valkyria Chronicles, Gears 2

    Honorable mentions: Boom Blox, No More Heroes, Grid, Ninja Gaiden 2, Bionic Commando, Rockband 2

    Disappointment of the year: Mirrors edge: Enjoyed the first 2 or 3 levels, the middle stuff wore on. Once I got past the 5th stage, I wanted to throw the game out the window. It wasn't that it was hard, it just wasn't fun anymore.

  7. For non-remakes, the only 2008 games I've only bought are Persona 4 and Yakuza 2.

    Fable II is the buggiest game I've played since Oblivion, with much worse combat (and Oblivion's combat sucks).
