Thread: Mad Men

  1. The Sopranos was very erratic in its output. David Chase would go for years without working on scripts. Even when both the Wire and the Sopranos were on HBO at the same time, they never really fed off each other in the same way. The Wire in particular seemed to be in its own hermetic universe.

The Sopranos in its later seasons, with the exception of a few character arcs (Christopher Moltisanti, for example, and maybe Carmela), was bloated and overrated. I still love the Sopranos, but in later seasons Chase really appeared to be starved for new story arcs. See, e.g., Johnnycakes and Tony Blundetto.

As brillant as the Sopranos was -- especially the final episode -- it peaked in Season 3.

    Again, this.
But I really liked the last two episodes. Before that, not quite so much (still good, but best season of anything ever? lol.)

Also Six Feet Under, The Wire, The Sopranos and Band of FUCKING Brothers were all on in 2001-2002 so that "two dramas" statement is absolutely hilarious.

  3. I wouldn't disagree that AMC has two of the best shows on television right now - and the craziest part is that they're on AMC. But even a wrong clock is right twice a day

  4. AMC was better when all it did was air B movies from the late 70s and 80s.

  5. AMC has two of the best shows on TV right now, and the worst show on TV right now. So it's a give-and-take.

    I stand by my statement.

Band of Brothers is not even in the same universe as the shows we're talking about.

  7. You have such fascinating opinions.

  8. Pete really needs to take up boxing.

  9. What a boring finale btw.

  10. It was rather anticlimactic. Pryce checking out an episode earlier was really the ! to the season, everyone else is kind of on cruising down a bumpy road. Phenomenal last shot though.
