I thought it just reinforced that he wants to close the door on his old self but is blocked—so he crosses the threshold and is outside looking in at where he wants to be but can't get there? Probably because he can't give up the ad business. it was the scene with that guy pitching for him we found out his apartment door is broken, too. Part of me thinks that because of the cold/warm thing they have going on. Everyone in California in the warmth is doing very well while people in the east are cold and still plodding through shit.

  2. Well yeah, it was painful how heavy handed the warm vs cold colors were in this episode. I think you're right though, I have no idea why he wouldn't just fly out to CA and be with Meghan while collecting checks from SCDPCGC.net/what. It makes sense from the company standpoint to keep him on the payroll so he can't take his ideas elsehwere, or make his own, but it's strangling Don.

Thought we'd see more fallout from Don showing his kids the old house he lived in as well, but that was left out. Granted we're only on episode one, but I feel like on a "Checking In" episode, that was a big miss.

  3. Tonight's episode is an example of a better episode than last.

  4. Was talking to Sats on twitter, but there are a few of us who are caught up so I'll say it here. Roger and Pete just keep getting pissed on. Pete is all about that upward mobility and made it painfully obvious how he feels to Ted in this episode. Roger is old and seems to just be picking his battles. Cooper straight up gives no fucks as long as blacks aren't out front.

Looks like Don's meltdown has become public knowledge too.

  5. I enjoyed both episodes. Joan getting recognized was great—shows the characters have depth. Specifically Ted's partner—he's ruthless, but he's also not always wrong. Sterling is like Don—obsolescent. Except Don still has his talent.

I love the slow, character driven pace of this show. It turns a lot of people off but it's why I think it's such a great and unique show.

  6. I like Pete's girlfriend. Also, Peggy stuffing her head up her own ass.

  7. Peggy was insufferable this episode. They are really driving the old maid stereotype home. I don't dislike her character at all actually, but dang i want to kick her lately.

Pete, as usual, works his butt off and gets shafted for it. And his (ir)rational fear of Bob Benson is funny. Roger is feeling the push of the "old versus new" extra hard lately. I think it's just driving that point home that the times, they are a-changing...and if you don't adapt quickly (like Joan) you'll be left in the cold.

  8. Maybe old. But I just saw if for the first time.
Skip to 1:16 if you only want to see the topical cheesiness.

  9. This was the kind of episode I wanted out of this season.

  10. Report to Lou? Oh that's not going to go well. Ice Queen Betty back on the scene too.
