Thread: Hipster: The Dead End Of Western Civilization

  1. So basically Weeman is a cellebate straight edge introvert or he's full of shit.

    Oh, and Andrew W.K. rules.

  3. I saw him in new york last year outside of times square in January rocking the white T and jeans in like 5 degrees.

    Believe it.

When you rock that hard a jacket would only get in your way.

  5. His cover of the Mickey Mouse Club March is maybe the most spectacular thing ever.

I caught him as the opening act in a huge arena show (I think at Penn State...).

I ran out and bought the CD about half a second later.

And he was rockin' the white T and fucking dingy-ass sweatpants! Rock.

Wearing sweatpants to a rock show takes stones.

    I am impressed.

  8. His "spoken word" was pretty disappointing. Everyone went in expecting him to talk about partying and be funny and ridiculous but he went on and on about how he wants to love everyone, in a very weird hippie kind of way.

But what he did at The Gathering of the Juggalos is probably one of the greatest things ever.

  9. Most people wear clothes because they simply like them.

In contrast, hipsters wear clothes that they think will make other people like them.

In the same way that hipsters use fashion to make themselves seem like something they really aren't (trucker hats, flannel clothes, etc.) hipster bands don the "clothes" of old bands and immitate the "fashion" of the music without understanding that the old bands simply sound like they do because they are being who they are, not trying to be like someone they admire, or trying to be someone that will make them popular.

    Thrash metal

    Crossover

    Originator: D.R.I.

    Hipster Equivalent: Municipal Waste

    Black Metal

    Originator: Mayhem

    Hipster Equivalent: 1349

    Death Metal

    Originator: Nihilist/Entombed

    Hipster Equivalent: Bloodbath

    Technical Death Metal

    Originator: Atheist

    Hipster Equivalent: Beneath the Massacre

    Video content in summary:

Original bands display a distinctive style of instrumentation and a definitive artistic direction.

Hipster bands borrow their instrumentation from originators and assemble it in a generic, cookie-cutter package, with the artistic content typically being removed from the equation.

    Two? Try ten to fifteen.

  10. Oh my god shut up.

There's not a single thing that makes those bands hipster. I saw Municipal Waste play a basement in Allentown four years ago. They're popular because they're tight as hell, catchy and ridiculous. Not because they're trying to fit into some crowd. Yes, lots of lame assholes listen to them, but get the fuck out of here if that isn't true for every single good band that has ever existed.
