Thread: Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection: Official Thread

  1. Yep, I was rather upset that after I increased the amount of lives you get in that shitty ass Thunder Blade game to unlock Space Harrier I discovered it used the controls of the arcade version on a gamepad. Almost unplayable.

Though it seems pretty good after enduring Super Thunder Blade. There are games in this collection I'm not sure why they're there. Zaxxon and Congo Bongo are pretty much unplayable, while games like Alex Kid make me long for the Home Improvement genesis game. Also, four shit Golden Axe games and no sign of the arcade versions, the only thing good about the series? Some games aren't my thing, but there's a number of titles here that are just junk.

Alright, you won't catch me defending shit like Super Thunderblade and the Golden Axe genny sequels, but Zaxxon and Congo Bongo unplayable? Is there something wrong with the controls or emulation, or do you just not have any appreciation for the isometric classics? I love both of those games.

And Golden Axe Warrior is actually a pretty great game despite being a pretty blatant rip-off. You should give it a shot.

Also, there's no Home Improvement game on Genesis. Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle does kind of suck, but the character has a cult following so I get why it's there.

  4. It's just not Thunderblade if you don't play it like this-

One of the best deluxe machines ever.

  5. There are about 700 things higher on the list than that when discussing why Super Thunderblade sucks.

It might be just using the standard 360 controller before I blame the emulation, but Zaxxon that I used to play a lot in the arcade felt much harder to manage than I remember. Never played Congo, but found it really hard to move where I wanted to.

Only tried a little of Golden Axe Warrior, but was put off by being too much of a Zelda clone. Yeah, Home Improvement was a SNES game, but I sold my Genesis fairly early on, so avoided any truly bad games with it, so I couldn't think of another game to name.

  7. It had a large spring-loaded stick, so if you let go of the stick, it centers, but that doesn't translate well to digital control, and there's absolutely no version they needed to have it work like that based on anything in the original. You can set it up in MAME with or without auto-center.
Can I get details on doing that? Setting autocenter speed to zero doesn't do anything.

  8. Played this almost non-stop over the weekend and discovered some great Genesis games on here that I had never given a chance to before (Like Decap Attack and Beyond Oasis; hell, even Fatal Labyrinth, as cheesy as it is). Focused mainly on unlocking the achievements (and finished this morning with Vectorman "Let's make everything dark as hell" 2). Looking forward to playing through the Phantasy Star series soon.

  9. Saw this the other day when a friend picked it up. The list of games looks amazing, I really have to get this.

  10. It had been years since I played Comix Zone, holy shit did I forget about all the cheap deaths and game mechanics like hitting things making your health go down.
