Thread: Silicon Knights: Let's Give Them The Standing Ovation They Deserve

Who knows. The Rogue Leader Spaceworld demo took only a month to make (and the entire game only took eight months altogether), and the F-Zero E3 demo only took a month, so it's obviously easy. I think it's perhaps more the converting of everything from N64 to GC while still building on it and keeping everything flowing naturally. They probably had to rebuild the graphics engine from the ground up, not to mention how sound works (the N64 has no sound chip, so it all has to come from the cartridge) and they might've even redone a lot of the voice and music specifically to keep it in a higher quality state and add to it from what the N64 might not've been able to do.

And perhaps they simply decided to take their time to make sure it turned out right. And that's something I simply can't argue with, Blizzard is a testament to that.

  2. well it took 4 years because 2, 2 1/2 years were spent on N64 development

they then said ok well up it to GC and spent 1 1/2 - 2 years using what they coold upgrading other things starting other things over and trying to do the game right

look at RE0 its kinda going through the same thing just Capcom is spending even more time with it

  3. once again. this game is not a port. they started from scratch when they brought the game to GameCube.

sure they had the level design and what not done, but they still had to come up with completely new code. not to mention that EAD started helping out. which just made Silicon Knights go back to the drawing board and add new stuff to the game, and make it over all better.

whatever, well worth the wait if you ask me. i don't see anyone else here complaining either.

  4. I could attest to that. Among other things, one thing the N64 ED had was rendered backgrounds last time anyone saw it. So you know this thing had to be reworked A LOT.

Although, and I'd hate to say this, but after hearing that GTA3 was the be-all of gaming and getting burned, I don't know if I should really go get this. Is Eternal Darkness so brilliant just because of the insanity effects? Or is there some nice gameplay and good stuff attatched to the mature-ness of the game?

It's good stuff! Far removed from the GTA3 debacle. But if you're still unsure, rent it. But you're prolly going to want to buy it anyway, so the rent would be a waste of 5 bones.

theres lots of really nice gameplay, a great story line, really good acting, fun puzzles, etc etc the insanity effects are just icing on the cake this really is a great game , and if it wasnt for the fact that Mario Sunshine was hitting this year id say it would have Game of the Year in the bag

it really is just a phenominal game

i didnt feel the same way about GTA3 i thought it was allright and just more of the same cept in 3D were as GTA1 - 2 and london were 2d birds eye view

  7. Well, Trust us Hero The game is GOOD

I totally agree with what JohnPV and Captain said above

You seen me nitpickin it, but those were 2 minor flaws, and everything else works great.

But if you are not fan of Horror/Action games, with more dark storylines, you might not enjoy it, and you better try something more bright and happy(like waiting for Mario Sunshine )

Try renting this game, if you like, you can buy it, and if you dont, it will save you $45

The insanity effects are just like 1/10th of the greatness of the game. ED is really a sum of its parts. Never before has a game come together like it does. ED is a much better game than 99.999% of the games out there, GTA3 included. buy it.

GTA3 was garbage this game is not! Trust me Bro, BUY THE GAME!!! You won't regret it. I'm only about four hours into it and even if it isn't any longer than ten, it was worth the fifty bucks.

    BUY IT NOW!!
    BUY IT NOW!!

*This endorsement brought to you by a fanatical Christian gamer who will now return to ED*

I was just thinking about this. At E3, this game didn't even register in my top echelon, but after sitting down with it and becoming immersed, I honestly think ED could be a GotY contender.
