This is the earnings for each of the big 3 for their Gaming Division. Which if I remember right includes hardware, licensing, and software sales. Sorry I was wrong, I should have said almost. As they need to lose another $1,579,944,775, which if this year is like the last 2 is possible to happen. Which is a solid possibility since last quarter they lost 400mil, and if the next 2 quarters are like that, well there goes the 1.5b. The PS3 either way you cut it has cost Sony a metric shit ton of money.

  2. hooray~~~Nintendo makes money

They'll only lose a bunch more if they drop the price and suddenly make 100 million new units. I think from here out they might be OK. PS3 owners (that means me too) need to buy more games

Can someone tell me what the point of this statement was other than to convince developers to not make PS3 games and for people to not buy PS3s?

The N64 sold 30 million units and was profitable. It's not like the N64 didn't get support beyond 4 years, like the other consoles on that list.

The PS3 has already hit the 21 million mark and will, more than likely, pass 30 million units sold before year 5.

  5. I think originally, Sony figured PS3 would be around for 10 years, and PS4 would come around 8-9 years after PS3 launched, in 2014-2015 or so, with PS3 and PS4 co-existing for a few years.

Now, Sony realizes they cannot sit around collecting massive profits from PS3 because those profits will never materialize. They're preparing for the PS4 generation now, which is to be launched in 2011 or 2012, around the time of the 3rd-gen Xbox and Wii HD, The PS4 will thus launch 5 or 6 years after PS3 (still a normal console lifecycle, not a short one) even if PS3 lasts some time after PS4 launch.

If Sony sat around until 2014-2015 to launch PS4, the next-gen Xbox would have 2-4 years on the market alone (launching in 2011-2012) with no competing product from Sony. Nintendo would also eat their way into the HD console market with Wii HD.

Yeah PS3 still has several years before there will be a PS4. all of 2009, all of 2010, probably all or most of 2011. PS4 isn't going to arrive until late 2011 at the soonest, maybe 2012.

It was profitable because it didn't loose hundreds of dollars on the console at launch. Plus past year 4 the only real support it got was from Nintendo, oh and A Tony Hawk Game. Other than that though, it didn't see the support that the PS continued to get even after the PS2 hit.

It had support from EA (Madden 99 and such) and Lucas Arts (Battle for Naboo and SW: Pod Racer) as well. The old Xbox had titles released for it, a solid year after MS pulled the plug.

  8. Wii HD.... lol, maybe the games will finally be 480p and widescreen optional.

The titles you just mentioned other than Battle for Naboo all came out before the PS2 launched. Battle for Naboo only came out 2 months after the PS2 launched. After the PS2 launched the N64 had like 8 or 9 more releases in 2001, like Conkers, Madden, and Tony Hawk. The other stuff was shit like power puff girls. That was it though, 2001 was the last year any N64 games came out. The PS though had regular releases till like 2003, and was getting sports releases till like 2004. That's what I'm talking about. N64, GC, Xbox they didn't get that. Both MS and Nintendo dropped their respective systems like a rock. PS3 isn't going to still be getting releases in 2014 if the next MS and Nintendo systems hit in 2011/2012.

The PS1 launching in 1998 is news to me. Way to ignore the first three years and still be wrong by a billion and a half dollars.
