  1. Obviously that would be ideal, but I don't forsee Nintendo going third party anytime soon.

    Would be nice if an enterprising individual took the idea and ran with it via Community Games, though. Doesn't seem like too hard a game to clone.

    On the note of similar games, Joust is on XBLA but it's only two player and it deserves a better update.

    If you like Balloon Fight, check out Hello Kitty World on Famicom. It's basically identical to Balloon Kid on Gameboy, but in glorious pastel colour.

    Or if you want Balloon Kid in colour there's also the re-release in Japan for GBC called Balloon Fight GB.

    Balloon Kid was a shit continuation of the franchise, imo. The one-screen competitive mode was the big draw of Balloon Fight, Balloon Trip was a decent bonus but it wasn't worth expanding out on its own.
