A New Defintion of Dinner Party

The “crockery set” of compressed cocaine was the latest ruse in an increasingly ingenious smuggling operation as disguised packages become one of the favoured methods for dealers to smuggle the Class A drug to Europe from countires such as Colombia, Brazil and Venezuela. Cocaine has been found diluted or mixed with other powders, while clothing fibres and other materials can be impregnated with the drug.

Two weeks ago Spanish police arrested a Chilean man aged 66 with a broken leg whose “plaster cast” was made with cocaine. The man, who was arrested at Barcelona airport, also carried six cans of beer and two hollowed out stools which contained the drug. Altogether he was caught in possession of 4.85kg of cocaine.

Smuggling is just one of the crimes involved in the drug trade. It's bad enough we have to worry where our clothes, food, and other goods are coming from, but supporting the drug trade with all its associated murder and mayhem is inexcusable.

Kind of a tangent there, and it'll bring in some defensive responses I'm sure, but the number of people sneaking around doing drugs is shameful. Coke it up with your frat house/boardroom buddies while people are getting machine-gunned to death for your worthless habit? Nevermind the blood coming out of your nose and worry about the blood on your hands.

  3. That article is great.

BTW, I've never done coke, or any real hard drug. All I've ever done in my time is drink a lot and smoke some weed here and there (and I haven't even done weed in the last maybe 2 years or so).

I don't judge if people do drugs casually, however, as long as they don't harm others. But I've had people close to me fuck up their whole lives on that shit and hurt a lot of people. People like that I have no use for.

I think the assertion by Nick here is that yes, they do, regardless of their personal action, through virtue of supporting a violent market.

Of course, there's damn near no products of any sort that don't have some kind of blood on 'em, so it's all kind of a wash IMO.

Exactly. Animals like chickens and cattle are cruelly raised and slaughtered for meat. Kids in sweatshops toil away on the Martha Stewart line for Walmart. And so it goes.

  8. But the illegal drug trade is characterized by violence and exploitation and is, by definition, criminal. Not much choice there.

  9. So's violently breaking up unions at textile factories, yes? Legit doesn't always mean moral.
