Thread: "I Hate My Local Trader Joe's" Thread

Improving the produce is the company's number 1 goal. A lot of it comes in in poor shape but the opportunity and local buy produce that we get in is always really good. Most of the out of season stuff is sourced from Cali or Chile and all of that stuff is hit or miss.

  2. Should only sell in season and local. It's the best way to have the best quality product.

Dedicate staff members to regions (like district managers) and let them build relationships with the local farmers.

    Welcome to the future.
    Boo, Hiss.

  3. Trader Joe's just opened up in Portland last Friday, 10/30. I bought a bag of potato chips, which were damn good. Other than that I didn't see anything I cared too much about. Any recommendations?

Not milk, though. Smiling Hill Farms 1/2 gallon glass-bottled 2% all the way. If there's better on the planet I've yet to find it.

We don't have too much corporate staff. The buyers are few.

  5. Would be worth it imo.

Surely the savings on transport alone would pay the salary involved.

We DO carry a lot of local produce, but you have to really ask at your local where it's from and what's fresh.

  7. Isn't your signage all hand-drawn? And they don't do LOCAL! callouts?

Yep. Our artists are very cool.

  9. I love the Trader Joe's (organic?) granola/cereal bars, as well as their brand of yogurt; the creamy kind. They also sell those big jars of peaches and pears that I think are jarred in grape juice, I loved those.

  10. Whole Foods is a store for wannabe Vermonters. Trader Joe's is to Whole Foods what a convenience store is to a supermarket.

(Not that there's anything wrong with any of that.)
