Thread: Official 2009 Major League Baseball Season Thread

  1. Fuck you Broxton you fat piece of shit.

edit: JJ Putz has an elbow issue with a bone spur...awesome. This is something that Putz had for awhile, he talked about it, Jerry Gangsta said he has no problems and MRI says otherwise. No DL decision for Carlos Delgado until the weekend. So now both guys are unavailable as the Mets start a difficult road trip that starts tonight in San Francisco then has them going to LA and finishing up in Boston. LETS GO METS MEDICAL STAFF.

  2. hey when they get here I wouldn't worry. We will pretty much be fielding a Triple A team by then. The games I'm sure will wind up a wash.

Specific things the Sox need to do fix their pitching, but haven't done because we have still been winning for some reason...

-Make up an injury for Brad Penny and send him down to find his goddamn control. Replace him with Clay Bucholz who has continued to be pretty much unhittable in Triple A.-

-Figure out if Beckett is hiding an injury or just fucking with us.-

-Return Masterson to the Bullpen, then between him, Bard, Saito, Rameriz, Delcarmen, and Paps we will easily have the best Bullpen in the majors.-

-Get John Smoltz the fuck up here.-

The Sox haven't panicked, nor do they really have any reason to yet, but it figures the one season Theo really nails the bullpen shut right out of the fucking gate our starting rotation collapses on itself for pretty much no reason.

No one will admit it of course, but the best rotation we could field on this team would be Smoltz, Beckett, Lester, Bucholz, Wakefield. They'd never do that because they'd have to leave Penny and Matsuzaka to whither on the vine, but realistically it's the one you'd want if they were all ready to go at the same time.

  3. Dodgers beat the Phillies 5-3 today. Billingsley pitched a hell of a game, and the Dodgers took a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the 9th. Jonathan Broxton ended up blowing the save though, as he gave up 2 runs after already getting 2 outs in the inning. Luckily the Dodgers came back and got a quick 2 runs in the top of the 10th, and the Phils were done after that.

It feels good to go on the road and take 2 out of 3 from the Phillies Now the Mets have to help us out today by beating the Giants!

  4. Nice job by that Troncoso fellow. He's been really good for your Dodgers.

Yeah, he has definitely been the most consistent pitcher, out of the bullpen, for us this season. Mota and Ohman on the other hand...ugh.

  6. The problem with the Red Sox pitching is that they seem to have returned to their pre-1999 attitude towards pitching, which was to accumulate a bunch of reclamation projects and hope a few panned out. You've got to pay for great pitching, either with free agent dollars or prospects. Boston did that for Pedro and for Beckett (the Diamondbacks gave them Schilling to fuck with the Yankees), and they should have done that this year to bring back Lowe.

Beckett is clearly hurt, Dice-K ruined his arm at the WBC, Wakefield is a 5th starter, Lester is great, Masterson is a relief pitcher, Smoltz is an unknown quantity, and Bucholz is talented but fragile. The Red Sox should have entered this year with a rotation of Beckett, Lester, Lowe, Matsuzaka (sans WBC), Wakefield (until Bucholz is ready).

In other news, Jimmy "The King" Leyritz was just taken to a Florida hospital after threatening to commit suicide

It's shame he failed. One less Yankee criminal is never a bad thing. Too bad he didn't kill himself before he killed that woman.

He's not just a Yankee criminal, he played for Boston too.

You can really make the determination that Bucholz is fragile after barely a year's worth of pitching? What he was at the time he was up, was not ready.

I've already said I agree with you to a point, but really what were the sox looking for starter wise? If Beckett had been healthy we would have been in back to back world series. They shored up the bullpen and did pretty much nothing to the offense this off-season.

I can't blame them for adding low risk high reward people just because the injury bug has been particularly harsh to our starter's over the last few years, but there was no need at the time to overhaul the rotation, and it certainly wasn't the mess the Yankees rotation has been the last few years. Cashman should have spent more time shoring up that bullpen than he did courting Burnett (Sabathia of course they should have signed).

Anyway my point was the Sox haven't even fiddled with it so we really have no idea where they stand. If we start losing consistently, I'm sure they will and it will become obvious pretty quickly how it works out.

Also no number 5 starter eats that many innings a year, Wake on any other team is a 3 or 4, but I get the jist of what you mean. And while it's nice you acknowledge Lowe (I was certainly pushing for him over Penny), you cannot tell me you would not have signed Smoltz.

P.S. This Angels game is taking forever.

  10. Wow NL Central is nuts. Brewers can't pull away. Congrats on going from last to first boys! Though its a tie for first. This weekend vs the Cards is going to be nuts! Sweep of the Marlins was sweet. Now take the series from the Cards!!
