Thread: 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs

  1. #711
I can't believe that lucky ass team got every break for yet another series. All three goals off skates in the series. All three 5-on-3s in the series. The only disallowed goal in the series. Fuck your revenue sharing asses, Hurricanes.

  2. Yoshi, remind me again why I can't say the Devils and Rangers in the same sentence? Nice clutch goaltending there, from Mr. Brodeur, giving up two goals in the last 90 seconds of game 7. I feel better about the Rangers game, now. At least I can blame that on the fact that the team scored one or less goals in four games and still found a way to take it to seven with their goalie.

That's 6 years and counting of these two franchises faring equally post-lockout.

  3. And, I feel really bad for Cow having gone to that game.

    That must've really, really sucked.

  4. LO-FUCKING L Yoshi ! Sorry for Cow as well, tho. The NHL finally gets Ovie vs Sid now.

  5. double ouch. haoh cursed me out on facebook and i wasn't even trying to antagonize him : (

  6. Sorry. They played really well and lost. Frustrating. I wonder when the last time was that at least one metro NY team failed to make it to the 2nd round.

  7. Someone who echoes Yoshi, and me, in a few respects (and not so much in a few others) from a NYR blog:

"First off, let me start by pre-apologizing for the length of my post. It will be my last post ever, so I want to lay it all out there... I AM DONE WITH THE NHL! This league has officially become a joke, albeit a very, very unfunny one. The obvious, and flägrant pandering to the "super-stars"of the league, combined with the blatant disregard for properly officiating contests, has left me completely disenfranchised. Anyone like that knee-on-knee by Fedorov on Avery in the last few tonight? Avery is the perfect example of this league's demise. He is a true microcosm of what is wrong. He is a marked man by every team, referee and league official. He gets called for penalties no other player would. He was manhandled in almost every game this year in Ranger blue, often times with intent to injure(see Fedorov). What kind of message does this send? To our children. To us, as fans(or former fan in my case). If you say the wrong thing, even in jest, you will be ostracized, outcast, attacked with impunity, and basically black-listed. However, if you hit someone high, knee-on-knee, from behind, leave your feet every fucking time(see Ovechkin), fracture faces of opponents with cheap-shots, etc...No Problemo! Of course it depends on who is on which end. That is the root of the problem. In it's fervor to market "stars", the NHL has made a mockery of the basic premise of competition. Without a level playing field, there can truly be no credibilty. The series last year against the Penguins really made me realize a lot of things. This series cemented those thoughts as fact. THE NHL IS FIXED. Coincidence that after being booted from the NBA for the biggest sports scandal in modern history(admitted shenanigans, and officials with orders to determine outcomes of close playoff games to guarantee league benifiting, ratings boosting matchups, remember), Gary Bettman(ironic name, huh?) lands as the new head of the struggling NHL? No. Not a coincidence at all. This is not in direct reference to this game, because they already swayed the outcome with the ridiculous, and clearly biased officiating in Game 5 at Washington. A lot of times, the calls, and non-calls are not obvious to the average hockey fan. Alot of people do not realize the way a call, no matter at what time, can change the outcome of games. This series was over when Blair Betts (R.I.P) was demolished by a ghetto monkey with absolutely no right to be in the NHL, or even society in general. Not just that calculated, and commissioned hit by Grape Ape who was told to injure our best PK player, obviously the strength of the team. The way the penalty situation worked out, with matching minors, after Mara hugged the Monkey, informed the Ranger team, that YES, they will get Jobbed. Deal with it. At what point does the knowledge of the predetermined outcome sap the player's energy, intensity and desire to compete? That is why you saw the lack of effort in the rest of game 5, a close one at the time of the Bullshit officiating, and game 6. The Rangers knew they would not be advancing. I, Eric Appelhans, do solemnly swear, that this once-proud league, and now laughable atrocity, will never get another penny from me. Not only am I boycotting monetarily, but In the future I refuse to be tricked into watching, supporting, or spending my time and emotional energy on something so tragically , disgustingly, and obviously relegated to the chumbucket of Entertainment. This sport has been disgraced, and is now dead to me. I cannnot justify any further expenditure of my precious time on this mockery of what used to be a large part of my life, NHL Hockey. I wish you fellow fans the best of luck with your ulcers, IBS, and other intestinal malformations you may acquire by continuing to be shat on by this league. It is not worth it! Go ride your mountain bike. Take your kids to the movies or park. Put your energy towards something that will benefit you and yours, instead of caring about or watching the equivalant of visual mind-fuckery... I implore you, if you care about your mental health, use this summer to find a new endeavour, or you may never be able to get off the strawberry-flavored methamphetimine that is the new NHL. Peace."

  8. go caps
    Check out Mr. Businessman
He bought some wild, wild life
On the way to the stock exchange
He got some wild, wild life

  9. the NHL is a shadow of what it once was. 15 years ago it was as relevant as the NBA or maybe moreso. i obviously don't watch enough hockey to comment on the purity of its officiating but i think it make be at the point where it lives or dies with its stars. so i can at least academically buy into the idea that the league may have a vested interest in the outcomes of these series.

  10. The problem with "Bettman's NHL" is that they are alienating their core - the die hard fans that go to games, watch every game, buy jerseys, etc... We all know what's going on and how much the game has changed for the worse. The average every day douche bag doesn't care about Ovechkin or Crosby, he cares about TO, Brett Favre, A-Rod, and Koby.
